I hope Carragher hasn't got a sponsorship deal with a watch company.
If you add that to his media job at Sky, it could be enough to give poor old gkmacca an aneurysm.

Or another one

All controversy aside. Our attack was pretty sloppy for most of the game, and with a few better passes we easily could have scored more goals.

Our midfield ran out of steam and whilst the subs were supposed to give us nore energy, Oxo and Winji came on and were garbage. Oxo was horrendous and Winji disappeared again.

Changing formation and inviting even more pressure on our fragile defence was not the right decision. The constant bombardment of our defence and the subsequent scrappy defending ultimately caused the penalties.

Other than that monstrosity of a nickname for Wijnaldum, I fully agree. 😉

You can see why the lino bought it. But there was contact. I've never said intentionally, or heavy, or anything like that. But van dijk kicked the back of lamelas calf enough.[/QUOTE]

You say he 'kicked' him. That to me implies he made contact with Lamela with his foot. He did no such thing. Only contact was between his knew and the thigh of Lamela. He definitely did not kick him.

There was contact but that contact was created by the Tottenham player running into ours, not the other way round. No penalty and a free kick to us would have been the right decision.
I’m just not sure that’s how the rules work though.

As said I think Virgil sees him but even if he didnt he is second to the ball as Lamela gets there first no matter how many theatrics he then pulls.

I did? Wasnt my intention really was only sharing that to me it looked like a pen at first. From some angles in replay to a lesser extent. There’s contact and then there’s room for interpretation.

An unlucky decision for us really but I don’t think it was in the ‘never a pen’ bracket. And I say this without wanting to justify anything just how I saw it. We dont have to agree.
Mate. You need to be forced to watch this 100 times and then see if you are still of the opinion it's a 50/50 call.

Thanks Binny !

If you do what? Lamela wasn't in the picture when van Dijk first went to play the ball.

Pochettino currently on the radio claiming they should have won.

... and they probably should have won given they were the better team.

I'm kind of with Brendan on this.

Two penalty decisions that could have gone either way - minimal contact for the first and he was offside when the ball was played - if Lovren hadn't touched it - Ref doesn't have to make a call on the penalty.

2nd penalty - I can't make out if VVD catches him or pulls out of the kick - looks like he catches him - which means penalty.

Our ball retention in the 2nd half was awful - Firmino gas an off day - where his usually reliable first touch deserted him. Robertson got away with a few errors, but the two CB's were solid.

Could have won it - could have lost it. I'll take the point given the muted performance.

On the first 'penalty' (dive) - I thought Kane was onside because Lovren (who I thought was really good today) touched the ball?

Was Lamela ever in control of the ball?

I'm with KHL on this one, can see why the linesman gave them a pen. There was contact, VD gave the refs a reason to blow the whistle. It is what it is.

Of course it's how the rules work. No way do the rules provide for a player to be penalised for the action of another.

And Lamela doesn't get to the ball. He gets to van Dijk and runs into his leg.

It's slow motion again. People gaze at slow motion and project intention that was never there in a nano second.

Well, I disagree mate. And the more I watch Binny’s post the more evident it is that Virgil sees him. Does that change your opinion on the matter?

And yet in real time everyone's appalled that the ref couldn't see lamela walked in to a kick

I don't necessarily agree with it, but I can understand why it was given

‘Carragher a coward’ indeed.

I stand by that completely. [Even though you of all people suddenly get self-righteously fan boy, well, blimey.] Great defender in many ways but he completely lacked courage when it came to starting an attack and played to the crowd. It used to be the talk of the stands. Everyone waited for the Carragher 'point'.

We'll have to agree to differ. I've watched that vid numerous times now. What I see is van Dijk concentrating on the ball, then Lamela rushing in from well outside van Dijk's eyeline at the last second and throwing himself against van Dijk's leg.

You have to at least accept that the linesmans view (Fab’s post) of the incident was in the penalty-zone. And by some margin too.

Penalty or not. Vvd was reckless in the 92 minute of the game. That touch on lamela was lovren esque. He gve the linesman a decision to make
Wtf! Does he have eyes in the back of his head? A player goes to clear the ball and someone runs in from behind and gets caught in him momentum. How in fucks name can that be a penalty?
