There was contact but that contact was created by the Tottenham player running into ours, not the other way round. No penalty and a free kick to us would have been the right decision.
All controversy aside. Our attack was pretty sloppy for most of the game, and with a few better passes we easily could have scored more goals.
Our midfield ran out of steam and whilst the subs were supposed to give us nore energy, Oxo and Winji came on and were garbage. Oxo was horrendous and Winji disappeared again.
Changing formation and inviting even more pressure on our fragile defence was not the right decision. The constant bombardment of our defence and the subsequent scrappy defending ultimately caused the penalties.
I’m just not sure that’s how the rules work though. There was contact but that contact was created by the Tottenham player running into ours, not the other way round. No penalty and a free kick to us would have been the right decision.
That's way off the Irony Meter for you.
Mate. You need to be forced to watch this 100 times and then see if you are still of the opinion it's a 50/50 call.I did? Wasnt my intention really was only sharing that to me it looked like a pen at first. From some angles in replay to a lesser extent. There’s contact and then there’s room for interpretation.
An unlucky decision for us really but I don’t think it was in the ‘never a pen’ bracket. And I say this without wanting to justify anything just how I saw it. We dont have to agree.
If you do what? Lamela wasn't in the picture when van Dijk first went to play the ball.
Pochettino currently on the radio claiming they should have won.
I’m just not sure that’s how the rules work though.
As said I think Virgil sees him but even if he didnt he is second to the ball as Lamela gets there first no matter how many theatrics he then pulls.

Does it matter? Honest question. Was Lamela ever in control of the ball?
You say he 'kicked' him. That to me implies he made contact with Lamela with his foot. He did no such thing. Only contact was between his knew and the thigh of Lamela. He definitely did not kick him.
Not only was he never in control he didn't 'get to the ball'. He didn't ever touch it.Was Lamela ever in control of the ball?
Well, I disagree mate. And the more I watch Binny’s post the more evident it is that Virgil sees him. Does that change your opinion on the matter?Of course it's how the rules work. No way do the rules provide for a player to be penalised for the action of another.
And Lamela doesn't get to the ball. He gets to van Dijk and runs into his leg.
Angles are a bitchMate. You need to be forced to watch this 100 times and then see if you are still of the opinion it's a 50/50 call.
Thanks Binny !
And yet in real time everyone's appalled that the ref couldn't see lamela walked in to a kickIt's slow motion again. People gaze at slow motion and project intention that was never there in a nano second.
There's a thing as "off the ball" challengesNot only was he never in control he didn't 'get to the ball'. He didn't ever touch it.
‘Carragher a coward’ indeed.
Does it matter? Honest question.
In-fucking-deedWe have all seen 17 replays and still disagree.
Imagine being a ref having to make a decision in the spur(s) of a moment.
VAR FTW

Defeatist.
Wtf! Does he have eyes in the back of his head? A player goes to clear the ball and someone runs in from behind and gets caught in him momentum. How in fucks name can that be a penalty?Penalty or not. Vvd was reckless in the 92 minute of the game. That touch on lamela was lovren esque. He gve the linesman a decision to make
