Liverpool v Southampton League Cup Semi Final Second Leg Match Thread

Can's passing is so erratic at times. Frustrating

It seems like a lot of our players tend to pass the ball to each other about 100 MPH over short distances and the ball just bounces off the target because it was sent so hard.

We are heading into the end of transfer window without a much needed injection of quality. As these players look / tired / no bottle when it matters.

I dont' think Redmond is doing anything special, he's just where all the space is.
I disagree completely. Yeah he got space/finds space but he glides past our defenders at will and create major chances for his teammates almost everytime he comes into the final third.

Was good at the start of the Season too and has just improved from there.

We need a striker that can head the ball. Or who is dangerous in the air. Southampton don't fear our crosses.

It's not just his passing. Whenever we lose the ball in the middle of the park and Southampton are breaking on us it looks like he's running uphill and they are running downhill.
Positional play is terrible from can today. Always seems to be chasing back to the ball

The first couple months are feeling more and more like a distant memory as a more familair Liverpool emerges to take hold.

This seems to be a growing trend in recent weeks (though perhaps just down to playing a lot cup games) - sit very very deep and then just hit us on the break. It's cynical but it works.

We don't look sharp or good enough at the moment and Southampton are annoyingly good in tight spaces so our press is failing to force them into errors.

Just waiting for the inevitable sucker punch.
We need to change something.

I still say we'd be better bit playing so high up the pitch, stay compact further back & allow them to sit in front of us.

It would negate their counter attacking with pace, & stop their tendency to play those lines of defenders, & allow us to do that great pressing as one unit to start our own counters. We have more than enough pace & creativity to do that & create better chances than we have been.

Henderson has at least been as poor in that aspect and he has even lost possession in dangerous areas a er times. They all look out of place when they attack really.

A few decent spells but overall not good enough. Frustrating to watch us move the ball so slowly and with so many mistakes.

Just proves, again, how important a player like Mané is that offers something different

Henderson isn't doing shit. Yeah here's Modo hating on Hendo again but he's been crap in the first half.

Sturridge on the other hand offers next to nothing. It looks like he cant run anymore and he's become extremely predictable.

I'm obviously a bit thick. I thank we have played well in attack and been inches away from carving them wide open on quite a few occasions. Southampton have had the rub of the green in those circumstances so far.

But, as I said ... a bit thick

How have we done? Sat pondering whether I should risk leaving for a train at 940 and miss the bit where we turn it round or get the train at 11 and spend the next 2 hours getting shitfaced next to some funny Scottish people

I've just ordered food and another pint

We're basically reliant on Barca at the peak of their powers type one touch wizardry around the box to score. It's no real surprise that as a result everyone looks like they're offering nothing.

It doesn't help that some of the passing and first touches have been erratic but I wonder if they're all feeling the pressure of knowing that everything has to be perfect to really get anywhere.

There was one attack where Southampton had 5 across the penalty box and another line of 4 in front of them.

We need a moment of magic or some shitty set-piece or something to draw Southampton out otherwise it's going to be another frustrating evening.

Given how consistently we've been off form, and how willing Klopp is to use youth with other youth, I don't understand why we are persisting with different iterations on this team. (not at half time, but at the start) Why not have one of the many jaded and off form elements of this squad sitting on the bench and replaced with someone with some spring in their step, less infected with the pallor mortis and resignation to failure that is just starting to waft around anfield like a familiar fart.

Looking for Daniel Sturridge's pace like...

That's three counter attacks that never even created a chance. It's one of the weakest parts of our game.

We've just been far too error-prone in the final third, making bad decisions and running into blind alleys.
