Liverpool v Sheffield United - Match Thread

quick thoughts and then bed ...

Gomez, bar one hiccup, was again really good ... VvD better, and yet another clean sheet - 5 in a row. First time since 2007.

Hendo was just fantastic again - what a renaissance he's had since his position change last year.

Gini is an ox - how tough is he to get off the ball?

Good goal, but Salah is so wasteful with his passing ... him and Bobby were atrocious in that part of the game today.

Origi - just bringing him for tracking all the way back in the last few minutes ... That's a team that wants to win every minute they're on the pitch, awesome.

As @Gerry_A_Trick just said, this season just feels 'weird' in a great way. Up the mother fucking reds!

How different can it look in CB and midfield?
Can we go with something like:

Adrian

Hoever (RB)
Gomez (Or Hoever CB, Williams RB)
Phillips
Larouchi (LB)

Milner
Lallana
Jones

Origi
Shaqiri (?)
Elliott

Klopp has said that Matip, Lovren, Fabinho, Ox are all about 2 weeks away (United game?), but I don't think he can afford to take risks on player fitness ahead of Spurs and United.

Mane, Firmino, Salah, Virgil, Hendo, Gini, Trent, Robbo ALL need that 11 day break. They all looked tired against Wolves/SU. Joe Gomez looks very fit right now, but i'm not sure if we want to risk him. Might have to.

Total control. Conserve energy and not get injured (how the heck did Keita get injured during warm up?). March on Reds.

If City and Lei win the rest of their games (not possible as they need to play each other) - whatever the rest do, we need to win 13 games now out of 18 left. One game at a time. Next

VVD and Gomez both put in another great display.

Hendo is playing like a man possessed at the moment. Milner and Gini both bring a lot to the table but Hendo is completely dominating.

Thought that despite the goals, the front three were crap. Firmino in particular.

Mane started the season on fire but recently form has dipped. Salah has been good in bursts and Firmino has had the odd spell. All in all however, the front three as a unit haven't looked great very often this season.

It'll be interesting to see how Klopp uses Minamino and whether he'll be trusted to shoulder some of the burden.

Front 3 sloppy, in particular Bobby virging on awful.

But our game management is outstanding. But for one vacant moment from Milner they didn't have a sniff.

Why oh why does Klopp not bring on subs earlier? Rest players, decrease risk of injury, give valuable experience, sharpen up the subs a bit for when we really need them and give the team more legs. I just don't get it.

But we've not been beaten for over a year in the league so who are we to judge?

Most passes in premier era..

969 attempts
873 completed

That was a clinic.

Was going to post about this. This was a "peak Guardiola" kind of performance – death by a thousand passes. Don't think Klopp necessarily planned it this way – it's just Sheffield's shape and style of play was conductive to this type of football. What's impressive is that this team can adapt to almost any situation and execute different styles of play successfully.

Wilder has bigged us up all season but what was he on about with the whole academy coach stuff?

Could argue keep.playing them. Momentum

I think he was referring to that academy level you have to play the basic way and not the football that we play, not too sure.

They were resting during the game.
