What a milestone ... Incredible.

As we approach this ...

- How long will Stevie go on for?
- Stevie vs Kenny? Who's the best in our history? Could Kenny have carried the Liverpool team Gerrard did?
- Will this be the first season where we start playing him less so we lengthen his career a bit more (i.e. better 3-4 seasons of 30 games than 2 of 50)

He looks sharp at the minute.. hopefully that bodes well.

It's obvious - despite is injuries - he takes really good care of his body. Might he be able to pull a Giggsy? The injury last year came at a 'good time' - it gave him an extended off season to recharge his batteries.

Kenny was the best I've seen. And he shone in a team of stars - that's more of an achievement than shining in a team of dullards. Otherwise Messi had better sign for Bolton just to show he's not just an also-ran.

But Gerrard's been an incredible player. And I've never seen him so at peace with the world. Whatever the reason, it's good to see, and I reckon he'll have his best season in years this season.

Yup ... something tells me we're about to see something that only confirms what we've known all along - he is one of the greatest players of his generation, if not ever.

And I was quite surprised to read this week he's the longest-serving captain. It's taken a long time for him to grow into that role, but he's now very good at that, too. I wonder what this job is that Ayre says is 'already in place' for when he retires?

If this man never wins a Premier League medal in his life, I will feel incredibly sad.

😢

Is Gerrard the longest serving captain in any of the big leagues in europe?

I don't think so.

He took over from Sami in 2004 or so?

Maldini, Puyol, Del Piero, Totti, Zanetti, Casillas etc. have been captain for ages.

I think there have to be longer serving ones.

Puyol got the armband in 2004, a year after Gerrard. He must be the longest serving current captain across Europe.

i'd tend to agree with you but i wonder what he has been like behind closed doors . I remember Torres saying not long after he arrived that observing gerrard (and carragher) showed him what a proper captain was like and made him realise how he hadn't been that good in the role himself at A.Madrid .

fuck ...if they were all only 25 !

Apparently Gerrard sounded out a few other clubs about taking part but they all wanted paying, greedy gits.
