Liverpool to double money with new £15M-a-year shirt sponsor

Liverpool believe their record-breaking shirt sponsorship deal could finally kick-start their new stadium project.

The Reds have agreed a four-year deal with Standard Chartered Bank which will see them replace Carlsberg as the club's main sponsor from the start of next season.

The deal is worth a reported £80million and managing director Christian Purslow believes the club can finally look to start work on their protracted new stadium project.

Liverpool have planning permission in place to build a new 60,000-seater stadium on Stanley Park, but the club's American owners have been reluctant to start work on the project due to a lack of funds.

"The overall financial health of our football club is a key ingredient of being able to get the stadium project back up and running," said Purslow.

"This is a huge step forward for the club financially and that can only be helpful to create the conditions in which we can restart the stadium project."

Carlsberg could sponsor me personally to the tune of £7M a year and I still wouldn't drink the stuff.
Even if they included it free in the deal????

😉
Ha, well even then.

I drink it when it's a pound a pint in some places but I'd never spend a penny more on the stuff.

Draught is pretty bad, out of a can is a crime against the taste-buds.

I'm just waiting on Mark MC to arrive into this thread and tell us none of this cash will see its way to Rafa for transfers.
I already did that

Fuck, they can call it 'The O.C. Stadium' if it means they build that sucker.

I wonder if they talked about it.

As long as it had Anfield in the name somewhere I wouldn't be bothered at all. We can't afford to be fussy any more.

King Kenny was on the local radio today saying he's sure the cash will be given to Rafa to strengthen the team. Now I wouldn't trust the Yanks to do that but if someone from inside the club is coming out with such statements, let's hope it comes to fruition.

That's good news at least.

The only thing I could see happening in January is some sort of swap deal for Babel - but even that's being optimistic. Roll on next summer.

Hang on, shouldn't we try to win the league first?

All the positive noises!

The £80m raised by Liverpool's biggest commercial deal will be reinvested in the club, according to the new managing director, Christian Purslow. In his first interview since succeeding Rick Parry, Purslow said the four-year shirt sponsorship deal with Standard Chartered Bank would be the first step towards transforming Liverpool into "the biggest football team in the world".

Asked whether Standard Chartered's £20m a year would stay on Merseyside or go to Dallas and Montreal to fund the club's owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett, Purslow said: "The fans will be relieved to know that Liverpool's revenues, profits and income belong to the club. I can assure you that as we drive forward our turnover, we will invest a sensible amount of that in our wage bill and our transfers. None of that money will go anywhere other than into the development of the club."

I already have Babel figured out, I'm gonna kidnap Babel and go to Hamburg, switch him with Eljora Elia.

The shirt may look something more like this...

If that were the case though, I'd almost rather see the badge in the center right below where the adidas logo is now, and get rid of the adidas logo altogether, just leave the stripes on the sleeves.

Christian Purslow is such a cool sounding name.

If he really wanted to make the best of the marketing, he would change his name to Mohamed Purslow

well I feel vindicated. I remember saying we should have one of the best (if not THE best) sponsership deals in the country based on our history, media exposure and fan base and was pounced on.

Really? You often do get pounced on (generally deservedly 😉) but as I recall it there was a fair measure of agreement over this. I certainly think we're years overdue a deal this good.

Yes, but fans prefer to wear what players are wearing when they play

We are, and curiously enough he did get pounced on...

Mostly by people lamenting how the mighty Liverpool was now a pathetic shadow of what we once were and saying how Rafa had finally salvaged some of our pride and how getting 4th place regularly was all we could hope for etc etc...

Those shirts are actually a lot harder to purchase over here, strangely enough.
