It's just bad timing for us. Had he waited until the summer we would have sold Diaz and bought him.
I'm also not sure we can or want to compete with PSG regarding his new wages.

Yeah, he wouldn't be the first not to enjoy playing in a Conte team. It just makes perfect sense to replace an aging Diaz with him but sadly we are all over the place at the moment with future squad planning. Instead of doing early well thought transfers we are playing catch up.

yea i think you’re on to something here, if he’s on 40 and PSG are 4-5x his salary then imo we’re out.

we can afford that alright but what we want is another diaz, someone with a reasonable release clause who’ll come to us on a paupers salary (relative to top earners)

Liverpool could also move for Kvaratskhelia if Napoli allow him to leave this month. (Athletic).
I don't think we will go for anyone... But we can live in hope. We really don't know what constraints Edwards and Hughes are working under but we did bid £50m for Zubi so we know they have access to those funds unless they don't.

We can't give them Nunez can we, they will not be able to afford his wages. And does Conte want Nunez? I think only Juve pay good money to their players

I’ve seen elsewhere that he’s on closer to £20k (and that might be €) as his wage has stayed the same since he was originally signed - there’s been no contract upgrade.

That saying, tge talk was of PSG offering 8 to 10 times his current salary - which puts him in the £150m to £200m range - not ridiculous to the point of smashing our wage structure, but probably at the higher end of what we’d prefer to offer, because he’ll want another hike in 2-3 years time.

bit mad that they never gave him a raise but yea thats the kind of money i had in mind 150-200k.

i’m guessing we’d like it to be 100-120 or less ideally, like you say it gives us room for reward without causing a stir.
 
I think this is a bit of iffy situation because we are concurrently negotiating salaries with Virgil, Salah, Trent, Ibou and, critically, Diaz.

We can't be telling our own players that we can't afford to give them a big raise then spend a huge wedge on a new player

Mabye, but the fee quoted only 6 months ago was 100 mill, and now with him having soon 2 years left on his deal and wanting to leave its down to 55-60.

I've got no doubt that we'd pay 150k + in wages for him.
 
I'm sure we spoke to his agent and we're firmly told "no' . He's a long term target so doubt we're just twiddling thumbs

I’d be up for that…and include a 50m buy back clause on wee Doak.

Semenyo looks like a real late bloomer to me having made great sides in an oft struggling side this last 18 months.

I think there’s more to come and he’s already at a Gakpo level.

I dunno. He's good, but still is very hit and miss.

I know there's very little " sure things" in football, but that's seems like a larger gamble than I'd like

For cheaper 30m without doak, absolutely.

Also don't think he's anywhere near gakpos level yet. He's a lot less assured, and the same age

I think i'd be ok with this if there was a chunky sell on % or a buy back like you say.

I wonder if this is a possible Jan move, made possible by Darwin going to Saudi.

Yeah, I can see where you’re coming from…but…Semenyo’s on target for a 10 goal / 5-6 assist prem season from right wing right now for a mid table side without a decent striker. I’m not sure Gakpo would beat that in a Bournemouth side.
 
Semenyo would be the most frustrating player ever if we sign him. Gets in good positions and then can't hit the goal to save his life. We need better.
 
Yeah I'm not convinced on Semenyo. Needs coaching or a complete change in fortunes to become someone who is scoring goals or providing assists. He has 4 assists in the last 2 seasons, one of which had Solanke scoring for fun in an attacking front line.

The only players at Portsmouth i'd be interested in are Kerkez and Huijsen. Evanilson possibly has a bit of Firmino about him, but I don't see him as an upgrade on any of the squad.
