Liverpool related transfer speculation

De Jong is probably one of the best players in regards to press resistance and is an extremely intelligent player. I asked the question as he has a registered top speed in the CL this season of 31,1 km/h. Which is roughly the same as Curtis Jones.

So, no. He wouldnt be a bit slow for the PL.
Agreed, but he still might be De Jong player for our team…

Not...gonna...happen.
Mendy is apparently out of a contract this summer. Would make sense for Davis to be his replacement
Unless he sees what's happening at City and thinks we are a better option. City may not want to invest (or be able to) come the end of the season !

Im talking about Mendy, the current real defender, not the one with the bunga-bunga parties.

Guys - is it wrong for me to think and want Ederson from Atalanta over Zubi ? - I think we need a bit of a tough tackler with energy levels. I think he is the guy who could cover for the Gravy.. Zubi - looks very light for this league - not sure about him.
This is why I am skeptical that City is looking at Zubi as a Rodri replacement.

Yeah, I sort of get Iago Aspas vibes from him. Brilliant for his boyhood club in Spain, but too much of a lightweight pussy for the step up out of his comfort zone. I'm still very skeptical.

I'd still sign Zubimendi in a heartbeat. Fantastic player and would be a perfect fit for us.
The life choices he makes/or made doesn't equal having a weak mentality or personality.
It does speak of an inner conflict / ambivalence about making the move though…and that is something to consider in terms of someone wholeheartedly settling and performing to their best.

The fact he was willing to put his own personal happiness ahead of big money and success with us shows he's got an absolutely incredible personality and commitment.

What it also proves is he lacks that winning edge and self sacrifice to get there.

Not really. He came on as a sub at half time and replaced Spains most important player, Rodri. Bossed the midfield and contributed in a big way to Spain winning the Euros.
Thats a winning edge.

The self sacrifice is taking care of his family. First and foremost.

Depends on the situation and what his family wanted. If he moves he’ll be great I reckon.

I've never questioned his talent, I'm questioning his winning edge. We've all seen players with huge talent but lack that extra drive that turns very good players to great ones.

The fact that his heart is in sociadad and the hesitancy last time makes me think he's forever not going to make that leap for us.

Zaha is similar. Fucking electric for palace and international; shit at united.

De Jong is quite injury prone though, especially to one ankle. Its not surprising they want to get rid (assuming his big wages play a part)

Bar the major injury in 23/24 he hasnt missed that many games, but yeah that ankle is the big worry in terms of any transfer.

I’m guessing they want rid because of wages, emergence of Casado and that he has 18 months left on his deal.

He’d be well down the list of transfer targets for us, but an excellent player.

I would’ve liked him a few seasons ago just to piss off the mancs who he rejected.

Now he’s on that cusp of being too old to move to the league.

I know it's not quite the same but you could (and perhaps at the time there were people that did) make the same claims about Gerrard.

He got recognition and a few trophies but he'll never know quite how far he could've gone at a club where he didn't have dross holding everyone back.

I fucking love players that are shite at Utd and ace elsewhere… it shows a sense of taste, in my book.

“Liverpool’s interest in Jeremie Frimpong has been confirmed again,” Christian Falk shared in his exclusive Fact Files column with CaughtOffside.

“I heard that his agent, Dirk Hebel, was invited by Liverpool for the match against Bayer Leverkusen. He was in the director’s box. So, you see the club and the player’s entourage are talking.”

“Frimpong has a release clause valued at €40m [£33m] and he’s also Dutch like their new head coach, Arne Slot. So, they’re working on this deal as well,” the Bundesliga insider went on to add.

The 24-year-old continues to look like one of the most exciting talents in world football. He’s carried over his remarkable 2023/24 form (26 goal contributions in 47 games) to the following campaign with nine goal contributions in 22 games.

I believe he will be considered home-grown cos of his youth days at Man City? Can see them having him on their shortlist to replace Walker too.

Can he play RW? If not we're preparing for life without Trent. If that is the case then we should also order whatever absurd deal we were offering Trent and give it to Davies. We would then have two off the best fullbacks in world football at the age of 24. Tough ask to get Davies here but we're a highly attractive club to play for.

Frimpong and Bradders to be our right hand side for the next 6 years?

I hope so too…but if, for instance, there’s ambivalence around the family move it relates to my point too. Footballers aren’t machines, they’re often heavily reliant on the stability of their family situation to provide an anchor outside of the weird bubble of celebrity / football culture. For the more introverted / intelligent amongst them - and Zubi might fall into that category given his playing style - any disturbance to his family might prove an unconscious conflict to him settling…

Etc etc…all hypothetical and not applicable to the Kyle Walker’s of the world…I really hope a Zubi transfer works out if he comes, as he looks like a perfect fit re Slot’s footballing philosophy.

Good point, and I agree. You could maybe argue that the timing is better now for the family and him. Re the club not giving him the promised contract etc and the family have gotten to think about a move for some time.

Lets wait and see. He’s such a perfect fit that you just have to pray it works out if he signs.

Looks very lightweight. Think he would get beat up. Im not a fan.

He bossed the England midfield with ease in the Euro final. He'd adapt without any problem I reckon.
