David Dein knew him and appointed him.

David Dein is respected throughout the world and has superb football contacts at the very highest level.

Tom Werner knows Bill Cosby

Tom Werner i think is a figurehead chairman.

Why do you keep insisting that he is calling all the shots. Particularly when there is no proof eitherway?

I don't really know who is calling the shots, but so far they have not got anything right or wrong. Give them a chance for fucks sake...

I'm interested in seeing who is likely to be appointed as the CEO. I'm also interested in seeing who they would appoint first...the CEO or Hodgson's replacement.

If we take a gamble than we should look at a former player who wants next level up (fowler/hamman), or take an experianced hand who's won things. Lippi/Hietzfeld/Bert van Marwijk.

God as manager of Liverpool? Are you taking the piss?

I don't think David Dein was chairman of the Arse anyway. I'm pretty sure it was one of the Hill-Wood family, and the essence of what they brought to that club was stability and business acument rather than football knowledge, which is what Tom Werner and NESV are after. Our equivalent of Dein (a football man in a high position within the club but not in the chair itself) is Comolli, so - while I share Brendan's misgivings about Comolli himself - it seems to me that NESV are actually fixing to take LFC down the same kind of route as the Arse, and that'll do just fine in terms of a way to run the club, especially with the "financial fair play" bit coming in.

My suspicion is the new CEO will be appointed first.

And there have been some interesting names linked with us.

Ah Brendan, didn't take you long to start taking the low road with the new regime did it?

Aren't you gonna give them a honeymoon period?

David Dein isn't a football man. He's a businessman, who bought into Arsenal in the early 80's.

He probably picked up a few bits and pieces in the decade and a half he was at Arsenal before the appointment of Wenger

He was involved in making decisions long before then, and clearly it went horribly for Arsenal.

His sitcom production skills certainly left much to be desired.

But do carry on dearest Ross, with your love of spreadsheets, dismissal of the importance of managers and long-maintained loyalty to the reign of Hicks & Gillette.

You clearly know an awful lot about football.

At worst Brendan I know as much as you do. Nothing.

My eyes. Make him stop. What a cunt of a man. When he's officially gone I'm putting my white suite on and will be drunk for a week celebrating.

Well he has just won the Ashes. I wouldn't dismiss the idea so lightly.

He's mouth just spouts more and more shite. Apparently on Alder Hey hospital - the local kids hospital - he said how he was honoured to take the players to the "second best" hospital in the country. Fuck off Roy I fucking despise every single sentence that is unleashed from your gizzard you clueless tactless nob.

Ha. Exactly. The man clearly has no affinity with the city, club and fans - he should fuck back off "Dan Sarf" as quickly as his zimmer will carry him

Yeah I read that too. Why on earth would you rate the hospital anyway??!! Say it's one of the best if you can't be arsed to say THE best.

incidentally this is based on a truth. Someone in works brother in law went to melwood to see the players train and meet them as his had leukaemia and didn't have long left. He wore the liverpool shirt he'd had for years but now was clearly loose fitting as he was becoming more emaciated. He meets some of the players and shakes their hands and says hello. He then meets roy.

"You need to put some weight on if you want to fill out that shirt!"

On a side note, when did the ignore user feature come in?

Why was Gene Hughes auto ignored on my settings? Gene, if you're not getting much feedback, you know why...

Why isn't anybody mentioning Martin O'Neill? I think he is hands down the best candidate for the job. He fits FSG criteria of an attack-minded manager who likes to work with young players. And I love that he is not only thoughtful, but also passionate and a real players' coach. I always thought he was the most likely to become the next manager of a top–4 team in England, perhaps even as Fergie's successor. The only negative I see is that he doesn't seem to know how to use rotation, but that's not too hard to learn, so that's not a major issue. It's not like he had a wealth of quality options at Villa anyway.

I like German managers and I think the German league has a lot of playing and coaching talent right now, but the best option happens to be right here in England... Personally I wouldn't even talk to Rangnick unless I was sure I couldn't get O'Neill.

been on a while. You might have clicked on gene accidentally as you need to tell the feature to ignore someone.
