Gerrard's decision to name debutant Ryan Kent in the starting line-up just days after he joined the club on loan from Liverpool was an inspired one.

The 21-year-old was lively and creative from the off, belying the lack of time he had had to develop an understanding with his new team-mates.

He might have scored the opening goal as he jinked infield off the left flank, but his effort was deflected wide.

Nonetheless, from the resultant short corner Rangers did move in front. Kent and Jamie Murphy combined cleverly, the ball was shuttled back to James Tavernier and the captain's cross was flicked past goalkeeper Marko Malenica from close range by Morelos.

Ryan Kent and Ejaria both started along with Jon Flanagan as Gerrards lads won their third qualifying game with their third clean sheet.
I think it could be really good for us having him there. Our youth can go play there and gain first team experience.

I dont watch any SPL, whats the general standard like? Bar Celtic Im assuming its a lower level than the championship, even David Ngoo looked decent up there and he was absolute gash

Celtic would finish about mid-table in The Championship; Rangers and Aberdeen towards the top end of the 2nd division and the rest would be 2nd division or non-league in England.

You paint a wonderful picture of Scotland as a great place for the progression of our youngsters

Yeah i'd go along with most of that.. If they were in English leagues (for the next few years at least)

Celtic - Between Championship and League 1

Rangers - Like a Luton big enough, but always bouncing between League 1 and League 2.

Aberdeen - Upper league 2

Motherwell and Hearts - Lower League 2 with the occassional trip to the Conference.

Hibs and Dundee Utd - Conference Stalwarts with occassional trip to League 2.

Everyone else Conference and lower.

Yeah, the Kent and Ejaria loans are stupid (from an LFC viewpoint). Patrick Roberts signed for Man City for £15m from Fulham; spent 2.5 years on loan at Celtic doing relatively well but still nobody has any idea whether he has any future at the top level. Rumours are City are open to offers of £15m for him. We will be none-the-wiser about Kent after his loan spell. At least with Ejaria (who has had precious little first team footie at any level) we might find out a bit about him.

I think the chance of them making it at LFC are between slim to none.
I'm sorry to "Debbie down" another thread but Kent turns 22 in a few months and Ejaria will be 21 in November.
Someone said it before, but when has loans worked out for us (youth-wise)?
I personally have greater belief in those who remained with the club, Camacho for instance. I'm not too sure about Jones.
Ojo isn't good enough.

Didn't a Scottish team just concede a last min goal to draw against the 7th placed finisher in England's top flight?

Scotland.. Back in pre-season and competitive action early July.

England.. Back in pre-season a good 3 weeks later.

Hardly a yard stick for how they'd play out over a course of a season..

Im inclined to agree, if thats the standard Kent is playing at aged 22 then its highly unlikely he goes any further at the club.

I think Pesam under rates some of the Scottish clubs (or over rates some English leagues). Celtic would finish mid PL and with more money push for Top 6-8. Aberdeen + Rangers bottom 6 PL but more money could pull them into mid table. Rest of the Scottish PL could populate mid to bottom table of the Championship and 1st Division.

You've been away from the UK too long. 20 yeaes ago I'd agree with you. Now the SPL is comparible to the Scandanavian leagues.
