We sold less than half the tickets we did last time for this stadium. That's what happens when hendo's your captain.

I think people generally are tired of paying top dollar to see a friendly. Every bloody year.

When the Scum were in Singapore in 2001 we had a packed stadium and sometime in the second half I think Barthez came on as an outfield player. Would you pay good money to see your favourite team monkey around? I wouldn't.

Arsenal and a bunch of lesser clubs (Sorry Stoke) are in Singapore but there's been little hype.

Thanks Dmishra.

1. Superb play from Texeira for Marko's well taken goal.
2. Powerful headed goal from Sakho - should have been kept out though.
3. Nice pass from Hendo well put away in the far corner by Lallana
4. Excellent corner from Hendo met by powerful Origi header, great start for the lad !

Just what we want to see to get the confidence juices flowing in those players.

Origi looked alright. Could've had a hattrick.

He did make some good intelligent runs too. What with the weather in the second half, it's pretty much impossible to read into performances too much. The pitch was waterlogged and on a few occasions the ball would stop dead after travelling a few ft.

From today I thought the following did very well

Sakho (intelligent, incisive forward passing from deep) Gomez, maguire, hendo, milner teixera, Lallana, ings, origi

As I said in the other thread, the things that impressed me most about Origi were his workrate, his "proper" striker runs (I loved the way he tried to instigate the one-two, by laying it off and then pealing away) and his ability to get a yard or two on the defender each time, the only thing that stopped him getting in a few more one on one situations was the God awful conditions slowing the ball.

Ings looked pretty classy actually. He plucked the ball out of the air sublimely early in the first half and looked pretty good, he was unlucky to have goal ruled out.

Gomez looked like a machine. Quick, strong, composed and he's so young, although it is is preseason against a bunch of part timers

I told my Italian Juve-supporting friend that we are looking for another striker and his first reaction was – "why would you want to block Origi's development? He is a great talent and needs games to grow." I think he has a point – and that's probably my biggest objection to spending big on an older and more agricultural Belgian striker. I don't know why Origi had such a bad season in France last year, because I was always very impressed whenever I watched him play.

This is not good - good preseason normally leads to poor actual season. Bad friendly results & we get off to a flier.

Bring back the 80s when we used to get beaten by a bunch of Norwegian farmers & fishermen in July (with 4 column inches of write up in the Echo) and went on to stroll to another league title

Agreed. If yesterdays match is anything to go by We'll be playing with two strikers in a lot of games though.
Hopefully Origi will get a lot of game time. As some of us have said, great talent.

Yeah, he looks absolutely perfect for us. Fast, tricksy, great awareness of players around him, ability to come deep, and defends from the front. He already heads better than Sturridge too!

I do think that the whole deal to leave him in France last year backfired for everyone. It was bound to impact upon him in terms of his motivation to perform, and I doubt his relationship with the support was all that great either. That 5 minute youtube is enough to see he's much better suited to us than Lambert, Balo and Borini, so he's a definite improvement to the squad. Lets hope we give him lots of finishing coaching with Fowler and Rush.

Origi got 9 goals and 4 assists in what I call 33 real games (their minutes divided by 90) for Lille. The season before, in 17 matches, he got 6 goals and 2 assists. And since the World Cup last year he's got 3 goals and 2 assists in 6 for Belgium. Now I don't know if he takes penalties but 1 in 3 on average is hardly shambolic for a guy that's only turned 20 and there seems, from what I saw of him yesterday, more to his game than simply putting the ball in the back of the net. His Belgian stats are much better given he's playing with superior quality aswell. In comparison we've just sold a guy of the same age for £49million that was a 1 in every 5.

THIS. Him and Ings both need game time. If we go with 1 up top and Firmino/Coutinho in behind, then we only need 3 fit strikers. Like I wouldnt be adversed to going into the season with Origi, Strurridge, Ings and Balo. And then re-assessing the need for another striker in January.

The worst thing to do would be blocking the progress of both Ings and Origi; and them both ending up a shite because of it.

Sterling played 36 games (24 league games) in 12/13.. 2 goals.. hardly productive, but his development needed it. Similarly, Origi and Ings need to be having similar game time, where they're playing FULL games and not just the last 10mins here or there.

I'd look at spending whatever money we have on tightening up the back 4 and DM position, so we don't need to score 100+ goals to challenge for the top 4 spots.
