Typical that being shit at the back is costing us again.
Sakho and Moreno are way off position.

This shit is finished.
They will score 4 tonight.

We need them to have some sort of massive meltdown. We basically need a turnaround like Us against Southampton a few weeks ago. I think we should bring Wayama on.

We need him in our team next season.

After Dortmund's blitzkreig, we've played well and created enough chances to score a goal. Granted, Dortmund are waiting for the counter but Lallana had two good chances, and Origi had a couple too. The difference between a good team and a great team is the ability to take advantage of your chances ... The scoreline is the same one we should have had at HT in Germany.

0 on target from 9 shots. Not enough quality in the team. Its easy to see it against such a fantastic team like Dortmund.

Shame personal mistakes cost us yet again. At least for the first goal but the second was absolutly brillinat from Reus and Aubameyang.

It feels like we're overly reliant on Moreno at times. He seems to see a lot of the ball and we're always looking to use him down that left-hand side. He and we are not good enough to have him playing the Alves role. He's been one of our better players though.

Sturridge needs to come on at HT. He's the best finisher at the club by a mile and we need goals.

Klopp has gotten this totally wrong tactically. Can is the only one sitting in midfield, and has been totally swamped.

Milner is great value as a third CM, but he's not very good at sitting, and we've just been run over. European games demand two sitting midfielders. We needed to start with Allen.

Agreed. Allen played really well in Germany and should've started tonight.

It was a mistake to start with Firmino. He's only just come back from injury and looks well off the pace. We should have started with the same team that played in Dortmund (with Allen in place of Henderson).

Yep, Firmino look well off pace after coming back from injury.

I think most back lines look shit if you let a good attacking team waltz through the midfield, and the mediocre ones certainly will.

I like that Klopp is willing to really stick his neck out and gamble, especially against better teams, but I think he got this wrong. I don't mind bypassing the midfield and going long, but I do mind a massive gulf between defense and an outnumbered midfield when we lose the ball. Still, if we didn't wake up in the first 10 minutes, we could have still easily shipped 2 goals to this lot, regardless of formation/personnel.

Thereafter we had a decent approach, but we so often play better when it doesn't matter, and that irritates the shit out of me

We were 5 or 6 against 2 for the second goal.
For the first goal you've got 1 or 2 personal mistakes giving them a counter attack.

Dont think you can blame it just on formation and set up.
We're simply not very good at defending. Its nothing new, its been that way for quite a number of years now.

That said, Allen should have started for Firmino.

Definitely more culpable than sakho. Doesn't fit the agenda though

What agenda? The one that's seen us end up where we are in the league? The one that's seen us look utterly fucking hapless plenty of times over the last couple of seasons in defense?

I get that he can occasionally look good and even tonight he's made some important blocks, but he's also utterly fucking brainless at times too. Just before the second goal, he had their player marked at a throw-in, towering over the guy, yet their player managed to flick it past him and then have him for pace. His positioning for the second goal wasn't "fine" either (if anything he should have learned from the throw incident), if it was fine he wouldn't have let it get near their player, he'd have won the ball or at least put the player off his stead, instead he lost the challenge and then got done for pace. In no way at all was his defending there "fine". The build up from our perspective might have been poor, but he more or less made himself the last man because he sold himself and completely misjudged it.

He's not good enough. We have to listen to people telling us how his great passing is, despite the fact he repeatedly, game after game gives away aimless passes to put us under pressure. He's done it tonight a few times.

He's not the only guilty party out there, but he's one that regularly gets mentioned because he's one of the ones who often looks the most vulnerable.

Personally I wouldn't think I'd know better than Klopp how to play against Dortmund, of all teams. If not enough of his players play well enough and according to plan, however, it's never going to be a good night.

He may have decided this was the best chance of doing what we needed to, and felt this worth the risk. Obviously it hasn't worked out.

It just seems strange to me, given away goal rules, to play like we did away, then follow by playing like this at home. Allen is no Henderson though.

Anyway, fuck it. Let's at least make a game of this.
