LFC v Chelsea

What happens to the 4th placed PL team if Chelsea win the CL? Don't they get a priority place in the Europa Cup and relegate us to a qualifying place?

No way is Chelsea beating Munich in Munich short of a city wide food poisoning outbreak which gets denied entry to the Chavs hotel.

Well, made some quick checks and in some cases we did play the 2nd string (e.g. Rbotnicki) while in others (admittedly more) cases we did call the big guns in.
So we'll have to wait and see.
Anyway, I'm not sure I want Chelsea to win the CL. I quite like the "you ain't got no history" chant 😉

Ha ha - I don't WANT them to win but it is hugely advantageous for us if they do. Lesser of two evils.

Chelsea were far better than us last night anyways.

That can't be real! Can't!

I've seen many a paper's ratings where it is perfectly clear the rater wasn't at the game.

I dont think any team have ever won the European Cup on their own ground

Do you have the statistics how many teams actually got to the final on their own ground? It's rather rare I believe

Some relevant stats (games which took place at a major team's stadium):

2010: Bernabeu - Inter v. Bayern
2004: OT - Milan v. Juventus
2001: San Siro - Bayern v. Valencia
1999: Camp Nou - Man U. V. Bayern
1997: Munich: Dortmund v. Juventus
1992: Munich: Marseille v. Milan
1984: Rome - we beat Roma
1980: Bernabeu - Forest v Hamburg
1979: Munich - Forest v. Malmo
1977: Rome - Liverpool v. Monchengladbach

There were some other cases in which a team took part in a final which was played in its own country (but not in its stadium).

Wolands picture is from The Star, underneath what can be seen Terry was awarded the Star Shocker award as well

Ha.... someone on here said Chelsea could easily have had 4 or 5 goals and it could have been different. errrr... didn't we hit the bar and miss a pen?

We also missed sitters again (Carroll, suarez, maxi etc.)

It was Fox so i wouldn't worry too much about it though

I don't expect chelsea to win, at all, but it wouldn't surprise me if they did. They're playing with a strong confidence, btu its down to whos fit and if the players suspended are massively missed

Chelsea won the physical battle against Barca and rode their luck amazingly well.

Bayern will match them physically, play at their own ground and face a rather depleted Chelsea side without key-players like Ramires and Ivanovic in particular.

It would suprise me loads if they could win this final. I didn't for one minute think however they'd win on agg. against Barca either, so I've been well surprised before.

as others have said.... seems to have echoes of our win in 05

Yeah, that part has bothered me since they're comeback when Martinez took over.

That said the laws of physics and the fabric of the universe couldn't possibly put up with another event like that in a single decade. They've taken it to the brink but Bayern have just got too many guns and too many options. Whereas with Barca they had the confidence to sit and soak it up I think they also felt confident that there was not enough arial threat. That's not the case with Munich; if Chelsea get a goal and then decide to sit they'll have to contend with speed on the flanks, midfielders arriving in the box and crosses whipped in to the box.

If Chelsea play against Munich like they did against Barcelona then Gomez, Ribery and Robben will destroy them as they are a lot more direct in there play than Barca, something they really needed to learn.
