Sample size is not huge, so take specific data points here with a grain of salt, but everything I know about him so far suggests he is exactly the player we need for the LCB position - as an upgrade on Robbo in our new de-facto 3 at the back system and a potential successor to Van Dijk. The two key characteristics for us is ability to progress the play and pass/dribble under pressure and aerial dominance - and he excels at both. Chelsea are reportedly prepared to include him as a sweetener for a deal for MacAllister, which means he’s for sale - we need to buy him outright and fill this key position for years to come.

1) Be surprised if Chelsea sell to us.
2) What reason would they have to sell unless someone bidded double/triple his value?
3) Would that value be justified given his minimal experience?
4) Why not just go for someone with more experience who won't cost as much?

His current contract expires in 2025. Badiashile and Fofana and both 22. Guess it depends on whether Pochettino is going to give him a chance + if he fancies going out on loan again.

He was good today but a bit suspect on the ball. A bit sloppy and played some very dangerous balls under pressure. Might be because of lack of playing time lately.

Which game was it where he was caught dwelling on the ball and gave away a goal because of it.....very Gomez esque in that aspect.

I see a mix of Gomez and Mings.....very over hyped.

Easy to forget that he just turned 20 this year and this is his 1st season in top flight football. Chelsea produced him, Guehi and Tomori but chose to splash the cash on the likes of Badiashile and Fofana.
(Though just on loan, yet another good signing by Brighton.)

If everyone's as good as they make out he is....simple question for you, why hasn't he featured more?

Under Potter was left on the bench every game, Under De Zerbi he's been in and out the side.

They have the 6th best defence in the league last season with Dunk partnering Webster (44 conceded; joint 5th no. of clean sheets) - behind Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and Wolves. Before Potter left, they won 4 drew 1 and lost 1; scored 11 conceded 4. So there wasn't a need to throw a then 19 year old into the starting lineup (+ I think he was signed more as a cover for LB & CB after they sold Cucurella + loaned Duffy to Fulham)?

After he came into the side in Nov, he then made 5 league starts in a row before injury in Jan ("Colwill has been in impressive form for Brighton in recent weeks, who are seventh in the Premier League table.").

Since his return from injury in March, he started most of the games except being rested/rotated, esp. since they had 10 games in the space of ~ 40 days since April.

Well, he was in today and they thumped the Arse 3-nothing on their own cabbage patch. Brighton have (mostly) been flying this season so it's hardly surprising that an on-loan youngster gets fewer games than the regular first teamers. He's not the finished article yet, but he's a rough diamond IMO.

I'd love him, but cannot see Chelsea selling him to us for a reasonable fee, which is all we'd be able to pay

Just a reminder that Chelsea are fucked financially. It's a position where they are well stocked and Thiago Silva looks like he could play until he's 50.
They need to sell someone and he'd be pure profit, without losing someone they're relying on at present. It's a risk but I could see it happening, not necessarily to us, mind.

There’s huge potential in this lad and he’s obviously got bundles of natural talent in his genes.

He’s a fine physical specimen too and I could see him ripped in a couple of years time, before his physique naturally tapers and fades in time.

in short, given what we need right now, there’s no better denim on the market.

Of course, whether Chelsea would sell to us is another matter, even though in Fofana and Badiashile they have an expensive pair already.

Things might play in our favor this summer as a) Chelsea are in a problem financially (as per the site's financial guru) and b) a new manager who has tended to favor elder CB pairings ...

Hopefully Poch gives us a Studge like present.

I think what our new 3 at the back system really needs is a 4th defender and for credulous people to stop acting like Trent can play in midfield and defence at the same time.

Puns are always in fashion.

It'll be interesting to see how no CL affects them for next season, which players will look to leave, which Poch will actively look to move on etc.

Yep, and not just no CL, no European football of any flavour.
I think someone like Colwill represents a sensible player to sell - they'll get a good price, pure profit, and they pass on the risk that he might be more Bramble than Campbell to someone else (losing the potential upside as well, obvs, but that's what buy-backs are for if it's a serious concern, although I doubt a top club would accept a buy-back).

20m would probably be a reasonable fee for him. I can see them wanting more
20m is about right tbh, knowing Chelsea they'd want at least double that.

That's the problem when you yourself as a club pay stupid money for young potential....you value your own on that level.

We should stay well clear of any Chelsea player as should anyone else....they're the reason this market is out of control, now they need to suffer the fate of their own consequences.

Have a like for the Bramble/Campbell rhyme.

Will probably get a chance at Chelsea now that Badiashile is out for months.

[article]A carry is defined as any movement of the ball by a player which is greater than five metres from where they received the ball.

Progressive carries: carries that occur in the opposition half, which are greater than five metres and move the ball at least five metres towards the opposition goal.[/article]
