So, we desperatly need a new left back don't we?
Dossena has fucked off back to Shitaly, thank God! Aurelio is made of glass and won't get a new contract, thank God for that aswell.
Insua is to young, to fat and not yet ready to play every match for a title chasing side.

But, who do we buy? We won't have much money, but say we get 8 mill that can be used on a left back. Who do you want? Realistic of course.

I want;

Aleksandar Kolarev
Maynor Figueroa ( who we apperantly are interested in)

But could also go for;

Tremolinas
Kadlec (Leverkusen)
Boenisch (Werder Bremen)
Taiwo
Antonio Lopez

No idea. I haven't watched anyone bar Liverpool this year, I've been very disillusioned with it all.

I quite like Bale at Spurs, although I'm not sure replacing youth with youth is necessarily the answer. He'd also cost more than he would be worth, I suspect.

What's happened to Srna? He's always looked decent.

I liked the sound of the big, black, French guy too.

Srna is a RB Squiggles.

What about Vargas? Seems a good player. Cissokho is another I like but only moved to Lyon last year so another move might not be on the cards so soon.

We've been linked to Figuero and also with that black west ham player whose name escapes me Iffy sommat?

Whatever, we desperately need a new left-back, Insewer is one of the worst in the league

He probably is the worst in the league, i can't think of another that's worse.

In fact i'd bet there's a far few left backs in the Championship that are better than Insua.

He's a disaster waiting to happen.

Vargas is a left winger that has played a bit as a left wing back. He wouldn't be our solution to the left back, but would be an excellent winger.

You're thinking about Ilunga Brendan. I think Figueroa would be the best option for us tbh.

Illunga could also double up as cover for Pepe on goal.

He loves handling the ball.

After a dreadful start to his Spurs career, he is going to be a leading contender for their Player Of The Season and has been exceptional at LB and LW for the last 3 or 4 months

In contrast, Insewer is a useless, slow, fat bastard who has been one of our poorest players this season

Antonio Lopez is also made of glass if my FM days are correct..

Taiwo is the only other on the list i've heard of and i'm love him here..

Hw'a improved drastically yes, but he did look like aleague 2 player when he first went there so that's hardly a surprise. I still don't rate him highly though, I'd be looking at other names first.

I'll throw in a few more names:

Oscar Wendt
Aly Cissokho
Sebastien Pocognoli
Marcell Jansen

Incidentally, what about Chris Mavinga? Wasn't he supposed to be a left-back?

We have been linked in the Italian press with Vargas.
I seem to remember reading that he started life in Seria A as a left back but having been a dismal failure in that role, he has been converted to a left winger and sometimes wing back.

Sounds exactly like a Rafa type player.

I don't think Insua should be discounted, he has time on his side, a great attitude and great potential - if handled well this combination bodes very well for the future. His inexperience, positioning an ever changing back 4 and a general lack of confidence within the team have all counted against him. I'm not saying that we should not buy a new let back, but let's not rule him out, hopefully a decent addition will not only improve the side but provide insua with the competition to bring the best out of himself.

Utterly wrong. As usual.

That's what I thought, but recent reports from the ressies on here have indicated that the academy management see him primarily as a CB now.

so you think that he has no potential for improvement at the tender age of 21?

I wonder could riera be converted into a good left back. I think he played some games in that position for city.

Kelly played left-back when on loan last season. He looks a real prospect to me.

[/quote]

Kelly, it seems, can play anywhere across the back four, which means he's a great reserve. Like Carra at that age, his versatility will enable him to get more games than would otherwise be the case. I like what little I've seen of him, but we definitely still need a new LB. In fact, we need a whole new left flank - because none of our 'wingers' (Yossi, Maxi, Kuyt, Babel) are really comfortable there, and Riera is almost certainly on his way out.

This gives us the rare opportunity of buying two players at the same time who we think can work well together. On the right we've got a full-back who's brilliant at attacking but erratic as a defender, and a first-choice RW (Kuyt) who's extremely solid and hard-working, but slow and not very skilful.

In the interests of balance and commonsense, I would advocate buying a LB who's solid, fast and hardworking, and above all a good defender, and a LW who's fast, skilful, left-footed (or at least totally comfortable on that flank), and who scores goals and creates chances for others.

I don't have anyone in mind particularly, but I do think those should be the criteria.

ie

Buy a good left-back.
Buy a good left winger

Well, yeah, but in the old-fashioned sense - ie not the kind of LB and LW that Rafa will probably attempt to buy.

I would like someone that can put in a cross and defend. That's it really. After this season the bar has been set very low.
