So there is no money. No Silva, No Villa, No Young, No Ribery (sobs).

We really did need more strength in depth up front. Look at the team we're playing tomorrow.

Spurs dedicated Strikers in 1st team squad: Defoe, Keane, Crouch, Pavilychenko (sp)

Us: Torres, N'Gog, Voronin - 2 of those players wouldn't make it into most Prem teams, though I have hope N'Gog will improve.

I don't count Kuyt as he is essentially a RW. We really should have strengthened.

Well there is nothing new in that Guardian piece. Just his interpretation of events even saying that IF there are no transfers in the last 2 weeks. Basically Guardian late on the scene from other reports last week.

I still think we will strengthen the front line with one more player (I saw Tuncay mentioned again yesterday - with Southgate admitting he would be gone within 2 weeks).

If we use Kuyt in the centre (and he did score most of his goals there last season) then Benayoun would be drafted in to the RM position and Johnson we not be able to come forward as much - or we could use Johnson as RM and Kelly as RB.

The transfer window isnt closed yet. We could still sell Voronin and Dossena and snap up one of those players. Maybe he has 10m left and wants to add 10m more before signing a 20m player, who knows.
Its not time to panic.

9.04 An early line from the papers is that Liverpool are lining up a bid for Aston Villa and England midfielder James Milner. However, it is thought that Villa will not be prepared to sell.

Maybe this doesn't make it any better...

He may be inconsistent but his cameo for England was fucking ace - get him in fuck yeah.

*still prefer Silva at double the price*

Oops - having seen the price being talked of, forget it and get Silva !

Trying to negotiate a deal with Martin O'Neill two weeks before the window shuts is possibly not the best idea in the world.

[/quote]

hahaha. Quite.

We moan about teh way he & Gollum behave over transfers but they behave exactly as they should for the best of their club, & not unlike Fergie.

there's a reason milner has been around a while toiling from average club to average club without establishing himself to a be regular

Er, what?

Milner was a fixture in the side for Newcastle, and it's been that way at Villa too.

last two seasons or so he may have started more games, i'll give you that. But do newcastle really count? being a regular for villa wihtout exactly setting the league on fire isn't the greatest pedigree. He's not good enough and is certainly no improvement on our first XI now.

I don't think there's much between Milner and Riera.

I agree we don't need him, though.

Milner cost 11 million. That was steep at the time. He is a steady reliable player who grafts for the team yet still has enough about him to play a nice pass or chip in with a goal if opportunity arises. He will probably be moved onto peno duty now that Barry is gone.

My Villa Supporting friend raves about.

Wolves, Sunderland, Hull, Blackburn and Birmingham have all spent more than us so far this summer.

people always look at the gross spent not the nett spend.

Then that is a fuck up on his part as its clear that he knew early on we were selling Alonso. We should have got in Barry early doors then sold Alonso and bought in a top player, if as it seems they have, the owners have pulled the Wool over rafas eyes then they are playing a dangerous game i suspect.

Dissapointing.

We did try but there was no way we could match the amount City was willing to pay in wages.

I not sure to believe that.

We spent 8M more on a replacement in aquilani, Alonso who was on a good whack was being taken off the wage bill....

God knows, either way we just won 4 nil.

I will be fucking distraught if we dont grab the title this season, win or lose I want them two cunts gone.

'nearly' everyone is tightening their purse strings not just us.

thats because they have enough good players to not have to spend whilst we do not. for too many years we've been signing useless players for god knows what reason. and before having to actually use them we've managed replace them with some other useless player and so on and so forth. it had to end eventually and now the resulting situation is as much rafa's fault as it is the cunt owners lack of money.

That's as maybe Neil but I didnt expect a zero net transfer spend after finishing so close last time out, if it turns out we don't have enough squad strength then i will not just be pissed off at Rafa I will be fuing at the owners/liars.

Luckily this will no happen as we will romp to the title and the owners will sell the fuck up and piss off and we will all live happily ever after.

thats what im hoping fr anyway.

A lot of those players aren't useless (with some the jury is still out), and we've sold on for a profit.

that's not true, often rafa has chosen to go with quantity over quality, the obvious example was kuyt, bellemy and pennant over alves, a world class fullback.
