Rage's newspaper review:

I can't believe that, according to the Daily Mail, the BBC employs the entire population of China to think left-wing thoughts inscrutably! What on earth is the world coming to??

I can't believe that, according to the Daily Star, radio stations are ignoring Cliff Richard's new single because he wears a hair weave! This makes no sense!

I can't believe that, according to the Daily Express, we never actually sent a space ship to the moon! Apparently it was all filmed in a factory in Dulwich! Why on earth was this allowed to happen???

I can't believe that, according to the Daily Telegraph, Brian Ferry's son Otis is teaming up with Peaches Geldof, James McCartney and the Jackson kids to form a new supergroup called Delicate Hymen! How come no record company signed them up earlier???

A can't believe [continues ad infinitum...]

I think it is clear we would have kept Xabi if he would stay, therefore the money from his sale is not required to pay club debt, is it.

From the Daily Post...

RAFAEL BENITEZ will deliver a plea to Liverpool’s owners to release more transfer funds – as he allayed fears of an injury crisis in defence.

The Anfield manager has seen his efforts at squad strengthening hampered by the financial restraints currently placed upon him by American duo Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

While spending £37million to sign Glen Johnson and Alberto Aquilani, Benitez has effectively recouped that outlay with the sales of Xabi Alonso, Alvaro Arbeloa and reserve players such as Sebastian Leto, Jack Hobbs and Paul Anderson.

Benitez is determined to bring more players before the transfer window closes at the end of the month, with a centre-back the priority.

Liverpool have offered £6m for Hull City’s Michael Turner, but Tigers manager Phil Brown wants twice that amount.

Sylvain Distin of Portsmouth would be a cheaper alternative, while Benitez is also running the rule over Stoke City's 21-year-old defender Ryan Shawcross.

Not a big suprise is it, most of us and including a few columnists have mentioned a while that there will be no extra money to spend. Including Alonso and Keane sales, the Americans will be making sure the interests payments are met.
Reckon Rafa will have a rant soon...

it's so annoying being in so much debt purely because the yanks own us rather than being in debt because we bought loads of top class players using loans

rafa's hardly gonna xome out & say we've got 33m to spend on players now is he?!

We'll buy atleast 1 player & spend atleast 15m before the window closes.

Like your optimism but don't think it's going to happen, I would have thought if we were then we would have done it by now.
I don't get the feeling funds are there, just lucky this season that none of the other top 4 have spent big.

This is my feeling too.
Why would he say anything else to the press?
This is the only approach that could possibly keep tranfer fees at a reasonble level.
He's not thick, he knows how to play the game.
Look at how he handled the Xabi deal.

credit where credit is due rafa handled the alonso deal really well.

i just hope we bring in silva at the very least.

I guess we've still got the time to make another signing, but it doesn't look good at present.

After selling Keane, Xabi, Arby and Leto we should have the money available to sign another major player. If we don't, then it just confirms 100% what a pair of total cunts G&H are.

Agreed, though we shouldn't be buying players for the sake of it.

If we can't get the players Rafael wants, for whatever reason, we shouldn't just go and buy anyone. We have already improved and aren't far away from the holy grail.

No its just a smokescreen.... all of it.... the not being able to pay the wage bill in Texas.... the selling up of the canadienes.... the fact that one of our owners owns a massive chain of CHRYSLER dealerships.... the fact that the refinancing didnt occur at the right time .... the 60M guaranteed repayment.... the 42M debt increase due to interest on loans.... the oh so rapid stadium progress...

The fact that despite knowing we were going to sell last seasons best player we havent bought fucking anybody and the season starts in one whole weeks time...

Its all a smokescreen so that we dont end up paying over the odds like ...

Obviously.

Its a shame because we are pretty damn close to being good enough, it wold have been normal practice to strengthen but.... anyway One thing is true though, moaning will not help matters and the season starts next week. I just pray to God we can get rid of those two fucking useless shyster lying fucking yank cunts before United are 5 leagues ahead of us...

No no, you ARE miserable.
C'mon man, just read all of Oncy's posts, they will make you fell better.

Both Arsenal and United have not used any or much of the money from their sales. If we consider that we've just paid 5m Euros up front for Aquilani then neither have we. Seems like the recession has hit big time and for some reason some people think that we should be somehow immune to it.

Immunity to loan repayments would be cool.... Im sorry Mr.HSBC i think you will find i will not be paying you fuck all this month as i am now fully immune to repayments and have no interest in your debt concerns...any chance of a couple of grand i fancy a holiday?

To be fair to myself in the face of beng accused of being miserable at least, and im sure the ever opimistic Oncy will confirm, at least i have consistently pointed out that we are owned by totally vampiric cunts.

So you can at least acknowledge im CONSISTENTLY miserable, at least when it comes to GnH.

The way I see it is if we do get another player (preferably an attacking one) then brilliant, but if not then Rafa has spent plenty on the likes of Babel, Dossena, Lucas, Ngog and a plethora of kids and he should be looking at himself to get the most out of them rather than looking to spend all the time.

[/quote]Why dont you knock it off with them negative waves. Why dont you say something righteous and beautiful for a change.

I am with the glass half full brigade on this.
I think we will bring in a striker and now possibly some cover in the back four.
Rafa had the Keane money up his sleeve to start with , plus sales of players, currently amounting to almost £40m. So around £55m he has spent around £33m, even if he spends another £25m, the club have had little, if any, actual outlay on new players this year, G&T would be doing cartwheels.
The Yanks may have their faults, but they are not that thick, that they don't know by now that you have to speculate to accumulate.
If we don't qualify for the CL next season, we are fucked, and so is their investment, the odd £25m here and there is pretty small change in the great scheme of things as far as that goes.
Make no mistake, Rafa has money to spend, but as has been said by a few wise sages, would be pretty daft to publicise it very loudly. G&T have always backed Rafa in the transfer market, not because they are nice guys, but because they need to.
Be prepared for a big signing, I am.

regards

PS Oncey your argument in the other thread that the Keane money does not count is a bit flawed, it is just as legitimate as any player sale money. We brought the player and we sold him

Very true. I also hope that Babel and Dossenna and Ngog and indeed Lucas can step up to the plate, just like Yossi and Kuyt did last season. I also have pretty good optimisim regarding Riera who i think if he can be a little more consistent could certainly be a good player for us. and despite being obviously miserable i am looking forward to this seasona s i think we playeed some fucking unstoppable stuff last time out and we should ( PLEEEASE GOD) have a really good dig at it again and maybe, dare i say it, win the fecking thing this time.

I'd be intested to see if Nemeth and Pacheco could be thrown into the mix as well.

That to me is my form of optimism, sitting there dreaming of a signing which blatantly wont appear is fucking delusional IMO and not calling a spade a spade re the owners is just a bit too rosey tinted. We needed a good attacker and we still do, lets hope we can wing it without. I think we can by the way.

I do hope you are right but Torres did come in June or July I think, well before season started.
Just think if it's a big player then it's unlikely a club will be willing to release him so close to a new season.
Would be great just to have a big signing now.
