Liverpool and Roma are ready to pounce for 19-year-old Dani Ceballos, whose Real Betis contract is running down.
The midfielder is already a Spain Under-21 international with two caps to his name, despite turning 19 last week.
According to Diario de Sevilla, his contract expires in June 2016 and there are no signs of an extension.
Liverpool lead the race, already presenting a deal worth €1.5m per season, but Roma are also keeping a close eye on the situation.
Ceballos came up through the youth academy at Real Betis.
Last season he scored five goals and provided five assists in 33 Segunda Division games.

Betis president Juan Carlos Ollero has denied that Madrid have made an official approach for 19-year-old Ceballos.
But the Bernabeu club have been regularly mentioned in speculation about his future, despite already having young playmakers including Martin Odegaard and Marcos Asensio.
Liverpool and Arsenal are also thought to be monitoring the situation, with Ceballos having taken a starring role in Spain's Under-19 European Championship win.
Ceballos has just 12 months left on his current deal, which reportedly includes a €12 million release clause.
Macia told Estadio Deportivo that Betis had offered the player a new contract and asked for him to be given time to consider his future.
"The board have made an offer to the player and his camp, a very significant new deal," he explained.
"From there, the kid will weigh up the situation and it is he who must make the next step. I am going to ask for the kid to not be in the media glare so that things can be done well."
Macia added that Betis would not necessarily look to sell Ceballos during the transfer window if he did not quickly sign the new deal.
"Until June 2016, Dani Ceballos is a Betis player," the former Valencia, Liverpool and Fiorentina executive said.
"Him signing a new deal or not does not mean we will take another decision. We will look at what is best for Real Betis, and what he considers the best option.
"If he is here, he will be available to the coach until the end of his contract."

Even if Stones goes to Chelsea is he going to start? He is a really good talent and you only have to watch him for a few minutes to see he has all the potential in the world but he still makes a fair few silly mistakes.

Terry is 34 though, and his contract ends in a year, so while Stones might not be an automatic for a start, he'll still easily get a chance to play a fair number of games if Mourinho wishes to rotate his squad for the 50-odd games they'll be playing. I think Zouma can play CM as well, which means he can also take Mikel's place and be used as a versatile utility player who is able to cover 2 spots.
That would give them a matchday 18 that looks like this (supposing Terry, Cahill still start) with enough minutes to go around. When Terry leaves, Stones, Zouma and Cahill will compete to be the preferred pairing.

Terry's always been slow though. If he'd had pace he'd have been among the best CBs who ever played the game. Managers have worked around that for club and country so his slowness has been covered. If Mourinho now thinks he's too slow even for that to work, it'll be interesting to see how often he plays this season.

Okay, I think it'll be either or, rather than both. Their nett spend has been pretty much zero or single-digit stuff for the past 4 seasons, and this window, they're +16m right now. Spending 22m or 25m for a striker would take them to about their par nett spending level, so I can see that happening.
They have a new stadium to build, so I don't think this is the season they'll splurge and double down. Well, not unless they move one of their bigger players, e.g. Lloris.
