Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt has admitted he is unsure where his future lies after rumours suggested he could be about to leave the club.

The Dutchman - currently on duty with his national team at the World Cup finals - has been linked with a move to Serie A side Inter Milan.
Any switch for the front man to Italy would see him work under Rafa Benitez, who left Liverpool in the close season after six years at the helm to take over the job vacated by Jose Mourinho.
The Reds have yet to announce the Spaniard's successor, leaving Kuyt in limbo and unsure as to where he will be plying his trade next season.

Wait and see

"I'm just focusing myself on the World Cup," said the 29-year-old.

"I still have a long-term contract with Liverpool and I'm just focused on the World Cup. What happens at Liverpool, we'll see.

"I haven't spoken to him (Benitez). I've had a few text messages but they were more like 'good luck for the games' and 'well done'."

Benitez's exit from the Anfield hotseat has led to uncertainty over several of Liverpool's star names, including captain Steven Gerrard and striker Fernando Torres.
Equal doubt remains over who will be managing the Merseysiders next season, as reports suggest Roy Hodgson, Frank Rijkaard and Didier Deschamps are the key contenders to land the position.

Possibility
The financial situation also adds to the turbulence and Kuyt refused to rule out making an exit after seeing the man who brought him to the club also leave.

Kuyt was a £9million buy from Feyenoord in 2006 under Benitez and the player conceded the managerial position - as well Liverpool's ability to mix it in the transfer market - could be prevailing factors in his decision.

When asked about a move to Inter to link up with Benitez, Kuyt said: "We have to see what happens. I also have a great time at Liverpool and I still have a two-year contract."

He added: "My focus is on the World Cup but I'm still happy to play at Liverpool. But who knows what happens in the future? We have to see.

"If the possibility is there...we have to see what happens with the new manager at Liverpool. Hopefully we'll get new players but we'll see what the future is for me."

Unsure on the future

Unsure on how to trap a football.

What do you know Dirk?

how to run

So reading that article, its not Kuyt who's unsure on his future. It is, as usual, the interpretation of the journo or rather the journo trying make a story that probably isn't there.

So... Dirk's at the World Cup, is focused on that, but would happily continue playing for Liverpool... however, because we currently don't have a manager he's not sure what the future holds.

.. and some journo decided to give it a "considering his future" slant.

Well.. I sippose you;d have to given the innocous nature of Dirk's actual comments.

Dirk always reminds me of the Joker's description of himself to Dent in the Dark Knight; "Do I really look like a guy with a plan? You know what I am? I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it. You know, I just... do things"

Kuyt was one of our best players last season and also one of the most committed. He doesnt deserve getting shit

if he was one of our best last season (he wasn't), then it would've been by default because of the huge amount of shit performances from others.

You could have been our best player last season.

Reina and Masher were the stand out players, joined by Carragher later on.

Everyone else was pretty shit.

Exactly. He and Reina are examples to others.

I haven't wanted him to go from the beginning. His kind of work ethic and general attitude will be at a premium in uncertain times.

Id not sell Kuyt.
He's a top pro and a top man.

Amen.

One of my all time favorite players.

Think we paid 9 million.

I like him,but we need better players. Its actually a sad fact when Kuyt has proven to be one of our better players. No disrespect intended,he's given his all and come up with some crucial performances whilst here. His commitment and love for the club has also been unquestionable, which is something that can't be said for very many.

This sound more like reason to keep him than turn him loose, no? We need more Kuyts and fewer Babels and Rieras if you ask me.

We need fewer Babels and Rieras without getting more Kuyts.

I agree that we need fewer rubbish players, but we don't need more Kuyts. One is enough, and most teams have one like him. The "workhorse".

I'm a fan of Dirk, and always have been, but he isn't one of the players that I would be crying if he left. Perhaps we need a transfusion all over the pitch.

You'd cry if Lucas left ... I'm sure of it ... (tears of joy of course)

Very well said. He has been a hardworker in addition to being a good goal threat from out wide.

But can a player who is reaching 30 continue to be the "workhorse" of team? Will Kuyt be able to provide the same amount of running and chasing lost causes as he has done for Liverpool?

Yeah, well, hopefully he'll be in the shop window in the remainder of Brazil's World Cup camapign, and someone will be tempted to splash out.

Rafa has said he wants Lucas, along with Mascherano and Johnson according to more recent records.

He can leave Johnson well alone.
