Roy Hodgson today revealed how Dirk Kuyt could return from injury earlier than expected - either against Sunderland at the weekend or Utrecht next Thursday.

Liverpoolfc.tv reported a fortnight ago that the Dutchman would be out for up to a month with a shoulder injury sustained on international duty.

However, the 30-year-old has made a faster-than-expected recover and is already back in training.

Hodgson said: "Dirk has trained the last couple of days. We're trying to protect him a little bit but he's made a remarkable recovery, so it'll be interesting to see how he progresses on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in relation to Saturday's game and the game next Thursday.

"We thought three to five weeks, so we're at the quick end of the scale."

Kuyt will be desperate to make the trip to Utrecht, the club where his professional career got up and running.

Meanwhile, the only other fitness concern for the Liverpool boss is Fabio Aurelio, who is out with an Achilles problem.

Hodgson added: "With Fabio it's a little more tricky. The sports science people are very anxious they get him 100 per cent right before they throw him back in because they don't want a situation where he's dropping out again. But he's making very good progress and if push came to shove we could use him."

A few more of Kuyt's patented placenta shakes and he'll be right as rain. I hope all the belly-aching fucks who were gurning that Maxi should be in ahead of Kuyt have had their hankering sated by seeing him get a run.

If push came to shove, Fabio would have a broken leg and three cracked ribs.

Good news about Dirk though. I've missed the not-very-skilful-but-incredibly-hard-working fucker.

Don't you know that before long they will want to try Babel there. When he proves less effective than Dirk it will probably be Cole, then Jovanovic, probably Gerrard, maybe Ecclestone or Amoo and then back to Maxi again.
But then of course, they know better than the current Liverpool manager, the previous Liverpool manager and the current Dutch one.

Good news.

Seeing as i have a fair bit of experience when it comes to football management, i can fully appreciate how much we've missed Kuyt.

I wonder if Dirk, Mr work-horse himself, has been injecting himself with horse placenta.

Ohh how ive missed kuyt, having to watch the piece of shit maxi try fill his position is just as awful as watching lucas trying to play for us

He was never good enough player. Average. Plus we shouldn't have let Benayoun go. I blame Rafa.

I don't think an 'average' player would make the argentina team...but then again, insua has managed a few games so that kinda pisses on that theory...

The thing about Maxi is, he's here and there on the pitch but does not contribute anything major at all. Its always pass here and there and he's fucking slow. Sell, sell, sell.

Who cares when Dirk comes back? Maxi Rodriguez will make the RM position his own.

And indeed he has. He's made it slow, fucking shit, ineffectual and depressing.
