Klopp will be at Anfield for the Villa game.

They didn't fully jettison it though - they tried to hang on to a form of it in the shape of the transfer committee, so hopefully if they do appoint Klopp they'll bring a DOF in too.

And what will they do with the transfer committee then?

My point is the complete lack of consistency in approach or stability. The new manager would bring in his own coaching staff, and we'd be at the beginning of another 5 year plan. A DoF/Transfer Committee/Whatever is supposed to provide a structure which means minimum disruption when a manager leaves and a new one comes in - ie the way of working and the ethos of the club remains the same. FSG haven't provided that at all. I've got no faith in them in that respect. If they approach Ancelotti or Klopp and say 'We want you to work in this structure' and Ancelotti or Klopp say 'I want to work in this structure which will require x y and z', are FSG going to say no?

What do you think will happen with Ayre if we get Klopp? There is no way that he would accept our current system, the TC. No doubt he want a DoF and that means less power for Ayre.

Ayre is the real poison at the club. He was that at Huddersfield.and their fans celebrated big style when he left.

Is it safe to assume that Klopp would want a DoF installed and our owners would also want a DoF installed??

I think it's safe to assume the latter.

I would never assume the former with any manager, as they all fancy themselves as able to do absolutely everything, including buying players, even if they've only ever served under a DoF before.

If they get what they originally wanted in terms of a DOF there'd be no more need for the committee and I doubt it would survive such an appointment.

I don't know the answer to your final question. Having compromised when they appointed Rodgers they may not be inclined to do so again, but much will depend on where they see the balance of importance between (a) getting the structure they want and (b) getting the manager they want. It's a fair question though and, if they still prefer a younger manager (which I accept is not certain, but *if* they do), probably increases the chance that they'll opt for Klopp, since he's actually said he wants to work with a DOF.

I think Klopp just made the biggest come and get me Liverpool plea ever.

Do ye think? I'm not fully sure. It could all still be media speculation. We cleared Rodgers backroom staff in the summer. Why didn't we replace the manager if Klopp was willing to come? I'm presuming it's because Klopp wasn't willing at the time? Perhaps he's now had a change of heart, I dunno.

Dave: that's certainly possible, but it's also possible - in fact I reckon it's more likely - that we were going to naff off the backroom boys in question anyway. It's become clearer today that there was a split on the board over letting Rodgers go as well, so my guess is it's that, rather than any reluctance on Klopp's part, which accounted for Rodgers being kept on, especially when you consider that similar stories about Klopp being "willing to cut his sabbatical short" were around in the summer as well. To me it's crystal clear that, as others have said, he wants the job big-time.

What I still can't understand is why - if they were split on BR continuing - why, why, why did they let him spend about £80m on players of his choosing?

It's so foolhardy it almost makes me cry to think about it.

Difficult one. My guess is they decided that, if they kept him on but didn't improve the squad, we'd plummet disastrously down the league. Why that didn't persuade them to give him his cards instead, we may well never find out.

I never believed that Rodgers picked the signings. What I do believe is that Henry and Werner thought that Ancelotti or Klopp would say yes to the job and the TC signed players to improve the squad.

I thought the players we signed this summer were Rodgers' own personal picks so ultimately if he failed, he do so by falling on his own sword?

Yes but isn't that a ludicrously excessive price to be willing to pay in order that his sacking should seen to have the utmost moral authority?

I'm just confused by Arn's post above. Perhaps I'm mistaken but I thought he had previously blamed Rodgers for the signings this summer as they were 'his' players but he states above that he thinks the TC signed the players.

Yep. Rodgers should not have been allowed spend all that money if the owners had intentions of sacking him so early into the season. It's bonkers. Unless Klopp ruled himself out in the summer so the owners persisted with Rodgers and backed him there and then. However, a poor run of games from Rodgers coinciding with Klopp's apparent willingness to come has now forced the owners hand??

I dont think he signed anyone this summer.

Here lies my confusion Andy.

Some were/are quick to tell us that Rodgers had a extreme bias towards his 'own' players and the players we signed this summer were his picks. I thought it was agreed Rodgers got his men this window? I'm genuinely not shit stirring here. It seems that notion is being upside down all of a sudden.

As ever I'm baffled at the confusion surrounding who signed whom. I think Rodgers wanted and got Clyne, Milner, Benteke, and Ings. I think the others were probably more joint decisions.

I think hes been a puppet since last season. Just from what I can see from the outside.
He isnt even playing Firmino. Why sign someone for 30m then play the 20m player who already failed last season.
