I don't know what's preferable: shopping around in the reject bucket with the grotesquely inflated prices, or not signing anyone at all.
Throw in the possibility of losing Can and Coutinho, and we could have another season where we slump down the table when we should've pushed on.

I think the club have done a brilliant fucking job of tempering expectations.
Go in for two players combined at 150m who we CANNOT sign so the fans think we are serious for once.
Then almost lose Coutinho and Can wait until the last minute, sign no one but keep those two and the fans are like YAY!!! WE HAVE GOT COUTINHO AND CAN!!!!!

Where are option 2, 3, 4 etc. We surely haven't gone into this window thinking that getting Dijk and Keita are absolute certainties?

From what I've seen of Klopp's dealings, he knows who he wants and why. He may have alternatives but I wouldn't bet on it. We're not going to see a Balotelli-like situation.
What does surprise me a little is how little competition there has been for Salah, Van Dijk and Keita. Robertson, too, though that may be less surprising.
You have a point, but I don't find it reassuring that he lacks options, it's kinda stupid imo.
Only if he believes what he already has is good enough, and wants specific quality and talent that will be a huge upgrade on what we have already.

Btw I think we should be careful who we sign as an alternative to Keita. There are two problems,
1. If we sign someone thinking that he can be a good option and he fails to live to Klopp's expectations, the signing will be waste. As there is a possibility that next summer window, we will end up signing Keita.
2. On the other hand, it is quite possible that if he performs good in the coming season. He will attract more interest from other clubs and might end up somewhere else instead of Liverpool.
I think the solution to this will be to sign someone on loan and adjust the tactics to "not having a Keita type of a player". Well hopefully this loan signing will be someone like James of Madrid on loan at Bayern, a player who is of very high quality but unwanted at big top 5 of Europe.
