At the end of the season. Few rumours abound on this. They are rumours though.

I guess the bitters have to talk about something now that they haven't got a cup final to look forward to

I guess he'd enjoy the academy aspect, but everything else would surely seem abhorrent. I remember Beardsley talking about when he was about to sign, he didn't have an agent so Kenny coached him on how to bargain with the directors for a bigger wage. He knows how to do it, but, thankfully, he's never been exec material. Why would he want to do that, rather than just stop managing and take up a directorial role? He hated it at Blackburn, Rangers and Celtic.

I'd like to hope it's a load of shite cos Carroll's finally scored a couple and he deserves next season.

But how happy would he be to do it considering it would basically be saying that he failed as manager ? it would a bit of a slap and would require being able to take a huge hit to his pride .

I feel like i missed out several words in my sentence looking back at it.

Kenny deserves another season if not just because some of his signings are starting to bear fruit.

Two games is "bearing fruit" nowadays ?

so you're saying the DOF position is bigger than the manager's job ? I don't think that's the case or that Kenny would see that way .

It is supposed to be a more strategic position. While the manager runs the day to day football matters amking sure the 1st team meet their targets, the DOF overview the whole infrastructure including the firstteam, academy, sports science (was the correct name for the doctors?), reserves etc etc.

I would not wish to lend credence to any rumours, but it wouldn't be out of character for Kenny to step back from the front line. He did it at Blackburn, becoming Director of Football as soon as he had won the League as manager, and at Celtic he tended to let John Barnes take the flak while he hovered somewhere in the background.

Why would anyone want this? Supposedly Kenny and Comolli made the decisions together. So we just hire another manager and let Kenny buy the players/dross?

I don't know wy everyone thinks that the only thing for a DOF is to buy or scout players. It is not. In his co-operation with the manager he of course spend time strengthening the first team, but the overall picture fo running a competitive football club is bigger. How is the academy set up? What psoitions surrounding the team do we need? How is the scout network set up? Overall how is the sports operations in the club functioning.? It is sound for the manager and DOF together discuss renewlas in the squad as well as utilization of the squad... Who can leave and who can't. But a DoF are involved in much more than that... And My assupmtion is that Comolli failed on far bigger picture towards the owner than buying players to expensive.

I don't think it would be that unlikely and might answer the question about the timing of Damiens exit.
Could it be they have someone lined up and its better than actually sacking Kenny as it could be passed off as a promotion, and bring him on to the board etc.
I would be wary about another season given some of the decision making in the PL. The Americans are not soft enough to be fobbed off even if we win two, they will be pleased but look at the home league for first and foremost. It's a win-win
Regards

When he first took the job he said that if Liverpool ever found someone better he'd be happy to stand aside. If he meant that and the board has then this would make sense.
