Who's up for a relegation battle then?

ROY HODGSON SAYS 'I'M RESPONSIBLE" AS FANS CALL FOR KENNY DALGLISH

ROY Hodgson accepted responsibility for the “really, really bleak†start to the season that has left his tenure in crisis and admitted Liverpool have been plunged into a relegation battle.

Reds boss Hodgson was forced to listen to the Kop saluting the man they already want to replace him, as a chant of “Dalglish, Dalglish†rippled around Anfield before the end of yesterday’s 2-1 defeat by Blackpool – which left Liverpool in the bottom three.

Hodgson said: “I’m responsible, I’m the manager and, when the team performs poorly, the criticism is going to come my way. I have to accept it.â€

And when Hodgson, who saw Fernando Torres limp out after 10 minutes with a groin injury, was asked if his team were in a relegation battle, he said: “Sure, you could say that. We’ve had seven games and have 31 left, but the fact is when you are in the relegation zone you are in a relegation battle. That is an ipso facto type of statement.â€

Liverpool have now made their worst start to a top-flight season since 1953-54, when they were relegated, with Hodgson facing a crucial clash against neighbours Everton after the international break.

“My concerns are that we aren’t playing to our full potential,†he said. “But I’m not thinking too much about relegation with 31 games to play. Things look really, really bleak. It’s very difficult for me to put a brave or bright face on it.â€

Club ambassador Kenny Dalglish was overlooked by the Anfield board in the summer after putting himself forward for a sensational return to the top job, and Hodgson responded to the chants by saying: “The supporters are entitled to sound their frustrations and they have plenty to be frustrated about.â€

Blackpool were applauded off by the Liverpool fans and manager Ian Holloway said: “To hear that at what is almost the home of football is so special. In my ea, there was no better football club in the world.â€

At least he's holding his hands up and not trying to give us some stupid excuse about Blackpool being a good side or whatever.

I think it's infinitley preferable to a Liverpool manager admitting we're in a relegation dogfight 'ipso facto' or not.

Still the best fans in the world, I thought it was great the way they applauded Blackpool after the game what with everything going on at the moment. Nice of Ian to acknowledge that too.

This is what he said to Sky Sports.

"This is not far off the home of football - these supporters have seen some of the best football over the years and in my era as a player there was no better team in the world.

"The boys made me so proud and for that set of supporters to clap us off that is all I wanted - that was what my dream was last night.

the thing is, it's just him gibbering again rather than actually talking perceptively. being in a relegation battle doesn't even follow automatically from being in the bottom 3: it's surely common sense that the term 'battle' involves some degree of urgency about the relegation. you can be in the relegation zone after the first game of the season, but you can't be in a relegation battle.

so, because he likes the sound of his own voice, we once again get this kind of meaningless - yet somehow still harmful - waffle, instead of what we really need: a rousing, inspiring, defence of our status as a leading club, a rallying cry.

he's really hopeless.

Good point, but here's the thing: We haven't been in this position in over 50 years when we DID get relegated. I'm not going to lie, I'm scared.

No surprise really, but he can't fucking win can he? Whatever he says is going to be dissected and ripped to bits. Last week he was accused of being too respectful of the opposition in relation to explaining dropped points, now he's holding his hands up and saying he's had a shit start and he's still wrong. What did you want him to say? He's already said that we need to stick together and that we need to show more of a fight, he can't cover every fucking angle, every time.

He held his hands up and admitted fault, which is a start, but he must surely know that no-one wants to hear that we're in a relegation fight. Football fans are not difficult creatures to understand, so there really shouldn't be this much of an issue with his interviews. Things are pretty fucking tense right now and his job is on the line. A little tact is not too much to ask.

Roy Hodgson's interviews have all been a proper car crash.....from the first day he took over.....

They should enforce a gag order on him opening his gob to the media.....pronto. That should be the first step, if he doesn't get 9 points in the next three games, he should be fired. That should be the next step....it is that simples.

Kenny Dalglish should take over in his place, and blood all the kick ass youngsters in.

Very well said.

Well, good that he is not too worried about relegation yet.

How exactly does he take responability? By saying he does? By holding his hands up? Things havent Fucking changed since last abysmal performance? Or the once before. Taking responsability is about actions, not stupid words.

Roy Hodgson shits low expectations.

I wanna punch him everytime he comes out in an interview and talks about us like we're some two bit team. He bloody well talked us into being just that.

Relegation battle. We're in a relegation battle.

Take responsibility Roy and realise this job is way beyond you, and do one.

He is making me remember Geds "we were the better team because we had more corners" speechs in a much more positive light.

That means fuck all. If you dint realise that you need a doctor.

Arsenal are in the strongest position in the league, maybe not in points terms but long term they'll be the biggest club cos they're sustainable, part of the cost of that is not winning trophies, but they're in the CL each season & with a tiny spend each summer, if any.

And every season there tipped for something, and every season they win fuck all.

Sure they play pretty football, but they have failed miserably so many times.

If it wasn't for or debt, (which we pay for the privilege of G&H owning us), we'd be able to finance our own new ground too, we earn more than Arsenal, sell more shirts and paraphernalia than Arsenal, have greater world wide support, and our youth teams won the fa cup 2 times in the last 4 years while theres hasn't.

We SHOULD be in that position (better position than that in all honesty) but it was all fucked up by the sale of the club

Arsenal would have huge debt too if the manager demanded large sums of money to spend on reserve goalkeepers every single summer then moaned when he didn't get it.

They would have known that money would be tight for a few years and prepared for it.
