Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

Barton just said on twitter that his friend Jose is leaving and wished him luck.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

The stats coming out on Enrique are really something, supposedly Nani was the only player to make more successful dribbles last season.

Curious who Ryan would have as LB instead?

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

I'm not sure what to make of Enrique yet, so I'll keep an open mind. We won't be paying too much for him which is something I guess.

I hope this frees up enough cash for a decent CB.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

I think the fact that we have such a strong historical affiliation with Newcastle makes me less concerned with this transfer than i have been with the rest of our dealings.
Simply put Dalglish managed that club, and about 80% of our players have played for them, you would have to assume that Kenny watches a lot of them and keeps his oar in over there.
I know its an assumption, but i would say Kenny has seen a lot more of Enrique than he has of say Henderson.
In addition to that i dont think that in Aurelio, Robinson, Insua we were THAT desperate for a a LB so if hes as cheap as being reported then it almost hits no brainer territory.
If he improves us he improves us, if he doesnt *shrugs* we were keeping loads of clean sheets post-January anyway.
So although i dont massively rate the lad from what ive seen im sure this one is not a risk. If he flops a Spanish side will pick him up and weve lost next to nothing.
With that in mind, well done thommo the snails pace itk and welcome to Anfield old bean.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

I think I've become a hopeless optimist with Kenny in charge. I'm very much of the opinion we desperately need a CB over anything and don't even consider LB to be a problem position but now we are near to signing Enrique I'm very excited. I haven't even seen him play much but the price sounds very good and the stats posted here are impressive.

Also I'm sure the current regime knows what they are doing and will sign that CB eventually anyway.

edit. just seen some comments by Newcastle fans and they are absolutely livid and saying they'd rather keep him for one season than sell for as little as £6m.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

Liverpool FC confirmed today that they had agreed a fee with Newcastle United for the transfer of Jose Enrique.

The club have now been given permission to discuss personal terms with the player, who will travel to Liverpool to undergo a medical.

Perhaps, but very little, if any, of that money has been reinvested into the team, so I think the fans have every right to feel aggrieved.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

Never been great anytime I've seen him, in fact been pretty bad but as Oncy said if he doesn't work out we'll move him on for not much of a loss and if he proves to be better than I think then all when and good. Hopefully he will be better than when I've seen him and prove to be a success

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

Baines was the lefty i was hoping for but it was always going to be difficult to get him.

Enrique should compliment what we have pretty well and will be a decent signing.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

AWful summer for newcastle. Losing nolan, enrique, potentially barton.

Suppose Ba will be of some comfort to them

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

Good news. Enrique is a good left back. Finally we can stop worry about Aurelio playing there.

Re: Jose Enrique - 'Done Deal' says Thommo

I rather this mass arrival system when all the components are established prem players rather than the unknown quantities that Rafa would import from all over the world.

Adam, Downing, Enrique, Henderson - None of them have ever set the world alight but I think they'll be great additions to our shit-weak squad.

Even if only downing and enrique start out of all the above, the other two go some way to making our bench look half decent.

downing and enrique are certain starters but I think adam and henderson will get more than their fair share of games

They'll get Bendtner though. Everything's going to be alright on Tyneside.

Liverpool have agreed a fee with Newcastle United for the transfer of Jose Enrique - but how much do you know about the defender? We attempt to bring you up to speed with 10 interesting facts.

1. Jose Enrique Sanchez Diaz was born in Valencia on January 23, 1986. He shares a birthday with Newcastle defender Steven Taylor.

2. He's nicknamed 'El Toro' (The Bull) due to his speed and physical prowess. He explains: "The nickname was given to me by a teammate in the Spanish U21s, Juanfran. It is a nickname that does not bother me; on the contrary, it is a compliment."

3. Enrique was selected as Newcastle's official Player of the Season for 2009-10 having been voted for by fans on the club's official website.

4. He was also named in the Championship's PFA Team of the Season for 2009-10 alongside Andy Carroll after the pair excelled in the Toon Army's promotion push.

5. As a youngster, Enrique had to choose between pursuing a livelihood in either sprinting or football having been a member of Valencia's Benimaclet running club. Suffice to say, speed is one of his main attributes as a full-back.

6. The defender started his career at Levante, impressing for their B team and earning a move to Valencia. However, he was instantly loaned out to Celta Vigo for a season in order to gain senior experience.

7. He joined Villarreal in the summer of 2006 and actually made his first visit to St James' Park that year, figuring for the Yellow Submarines in a pre-season friendly against Newcastle United.

8. Enrique would make a permanent move to Tyneside 12 months later when he signed a five-year deal, with then Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce claiming Newcastle had beaten off competition from Liverpool and Manchester City to land their man.

9. Enrique made 36 appearances for the Toon in 2010-11, all of which came in the Premier League.

10. Enrique has netted just one goal since arriving in England. It came during Newcastle's 2-0 victory over Nottingham Forest in March 2010.
