Jordan Henderson

I agree Gene. It may be exciting, but he's not a "star". I've never heard him thrown into conversation by anyone outside of a forum. No doubt he's great though, and I'll be pleased to have him.

He's not Kaka though (at this stage).

Hmmmm.... who was voted player of the year in France last year? And the year before?

Sorry, I accept he may be fantastic and he may be 'big in France' but I don't think he's a star yet.

2009 Yoann Gourcuff Bordeaux - Would love to have him!
2010 Lisandro Lopez Lyon - Great striker
2011 Eden Hazard Lille - your move

Last post of the day.

He seems to be highly rated by most people in the game, and that seems to include Kenny too.
If he is an outstanding prospect and we have the money available as we seem to we would be foolish not to go for him.
There is a logic in signing good young English players, they don't feel isolated and home sick and want to get back home or to sunnier climes especially if they are struggling.

The alternative is to leave it , let another top team take him and take the chance that he won't make it, although I suspect he will.

Would he be any more of a gamble than say Aqualani, or Babel or could he be another Gerrard, Rooney, Owen.

regards

Zidane has raved about Hazard and has pleaded with Real to sign him. He is also well regarded by Wenger who I would regard as the best judge of French talent on the planet.

Id be quite happy to be fair if we just signed Henderson, Wickham and ONE big signing.....AS LONG AS HE CAN PLAY WIDE ON THE FUCKING LEFT.
I do like the idea of recruiting top English (or home countries) talent, anyone who knows me will remember me ranting about us not being in for Bale, Ramsay, Young, Johnson, Wilshere, Walcott, Huddlestone, Jagielka etc and yes along the way there has been the Giles Barnes etc, but weve been out there plumbing spain and france and god knows where the fuck else and every other team has picked these fuckers up. At the very least these players hold their value so if they dont make it you can get your money back, so id be delighted to see these lads come in (and the winger from Southampton and the lad from Tranmere) but it must be a priority to sign first teamers to get us back ito the top four right now.

Gourcuff and Lopez are not stars. Obviously we just have a different concept of what a 'star' is.

He is a self-confessed manc though btw. Just saying like.
He's definitely a Sunderland fan although he always admired Giggs, Scholes and co which isn't really a surprise.

i think somebodies already said this (whilst being more specific) but signing players like henderson and adam, (who is still quite likely) along with a maregue signing or two will be incredibly good for the squad, a lot of people are looking at the individual players but i think its lot more imprtant to look at the overall squad and i think it has lots of talent when the more likely links are included, not to mention potential

I hope Sir Peter Of the Hague is correct and the owners are jusy like 'Ya need 'im? Go get 'im Ken'
So ultimately we will sign
Henderson
Aguero
Mata
Young
Dann
Adam
Enrique.

Sell
Agger
Aurelio
Insua
Degen
Krygiakos
Ngog
Poulsen
Jovanovic.

and every dog from the wirrall to the M6 will walk with a fucking limp till Christmas.

Not sure what all the hysterics are about, I quite clearly said a few pages back that I rate this lad and that that should be enough to calm everyone down.

Yes, but you rated Hayden Mullins too ... So you're not perfect, like Dreamy.
Sorry to piss on your parade Oncey but I don't think we will be signing Adam from that lot

I think Adam will be signed very soon actually, the fee is already agreed according to some.

If we're signing Adam then Henderson must surely be earmarked for the right wing and as cover for the centre. Signing both would give us:

Gerrard
Ming
Lucas
Spearing
Shelvey
Adam
Henderson.

or else there will be more players leaving than we think ?
Like?

Spearing? Shelvey out on loan? Maxi?

I don't see Adam signing for a start, but I wouldn't be surprised if we cashed in on Lucas either.

Maybe.

If Henderson was a direct replacement for anyone in our midfield, Gerrard is the one he's most like.

Yup. I would sell for 12m.

Has anyone factored in that we're not playing in any European competition next season?
Wouldn't it normally affect the squad size?

Even if Gerrard isn't finished now, it won't be long. If Kenny and Co see Henderson as a guy who can fill that void they are right to pay the price. It will also benefit Henderson to have a season or two learning the ropes from the master before he hangs up his boots for a life of hand washing and Phil Collins tunes.

Yes. It would certainly be wise to be looking at ways to replace Gerrard long term and better to do so a few years in advance rather than wait for him to quit and lumber a big new signing with the label of 'Gerrard's replacement' - imagine the pressure in that.

Maybe, with Gerrard now over 30, we are looking at changing things around a bit? Changing Gerrard's role in the side? Who knows.

Maybe we are finally replacing Alonso, with Gerrard. If his legs have gone picking the ball up from defense and pinging passes around the place will work. With that system Gerrard will have more quality players to aim at than Alonso did.

It's a league winning formula!

I can't see Stevie playing DM on his own. Maybe with a Spearing-type player next to him, but alone? I think we'd suffer defensively.

Alonso alway's had a Masher or Momo beside him, that would be ideal but we might have to settle for an improving Lucas.
