Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers ready to part with Jonjo Shelvey and Jay Spearing

22 Jun 2013 23:00
Stoke City were linked with the former while Tony Pulis was in charge and Norwich are also thought to be interested

Out: Jonjo Shelvey is set to leave Anfield for £7million

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will sell England cap Jonjo Shelvey – to trigger a shake-up at Anfield, writes Alan Nixon of the Sunday People .
The 21-year-old midfielder, signed when Kenny Dalglish was in charge of recruiting young talent, can go if an offer comes in of around £7million.
Shelvey was part of the ill-fated England under-21 side at the European Championship while Rodgers was looking for new players back home.
And now Romford boy Shelvey can move on, with a handful of clubs looking at him but keen to do a bargain deal. Stoke were keen on Shelvey last season but that was under former boss Tony Pulis – new Britannia gaffer Mark Hughes may have other ideas.
Norwich City are also looking, but the asking price is too steep for them.

Back from Bolton: But Jay Spearing could move for £3million
Tom Szczerbowski

Rodgers will also sell Jay Spearing, back from a loan season at Bolton, for around £3m.
Hull are keen on Spearing and Bolton would like him back but only on loan.
Rodgers is also willing to let young full-back Andre Wisdom go out on loan, although he would prefer him to go to the Championship. Fulham fancy Wisdom, but Kop chiefs would prefer he went to a club with an emergency recall facility which may rule out a Premier League team.
With a number of young players leaving Anfield, the club yesterday paraded new signing Luis Alberto, who joined from Sevilla for £6.8m.

Rodgers obviously hates baldies.

Reina and Skrtel need to grow some hair soon if they want to stay. Enrique got the message already.

Wait a minute, you might be on to something...Spearing, Jonjo, Skrtel, Reina

Spearing has to go, there's no doubt about it. I would prefer Shelvey to go out on loan as I still have some faith in him but wouldn't argue too much either if we sold him.

Jay has no future at the club, better for him to move on while hes got the opportunity.

Shelvey should go on loan unless we desperately need the money, a year playing first team football for another side would most likely either make him a better player or increase his value, unless he has a disaster but I think he would do well in a lower premiership side

Spearing is worth 3m to a Championship team. He was Bolton's player of the season last year, which is all that could be expected of him really.

He's a good player Doc who I think could still do a good job in the Prem for a less side, he's not good enough for a top team, but nowhere near as poor as some on here seem to think.

As for Shelvey, I think it could come back to haunt us.

I'm not so sure how much we'd be haunted by @Shelvey (though I do love having him post here), but I do think you're spot on about Spearo.

Almost as manipulative as some on here. Benitez bought him. Dalglish was 'in charge' of nothing. If Shelvey had been a big success the wording would have been completely different.

Benitez said he has a number of other young, British players lined up to sign in the near future.
"I was trying to sign Gareth Barry before and Glen Johnson was the same idea - we were trying to bring in British players with passion," said Benitez.
"Players who could feel what Liverpool means. Shelvey is one of these and we have two or three names ready so we will try to do the best for the club.
"We have this long-term plan in place and we will try to follow the plan."

Anyway, Nixon is the most notorious hack for planting agent stories.

Jonjo squandered every opportunity he was given this season by being absolutely dross. He was good in pre-season but shit his pants every time he got a chance in the league and cups this year. Rodgers gave him a fair shot and he didn't deliver.

Spearing is a manlet who was never good enough, I won't cry too much when he leaves.

Perhaps, we should've allowed him to stay with Charlton when we signed him, especially seeing how well Powell has done since lifting them to Championship from League 1.

We should do a Real Madrid esque buy back thing if we sell Shelvey. That way if he turns out to be shit-hot we can get him back without being raped on the price

Won't be arsed if they both go. I'd put some sort of clause in shelvey's deal tho incase by some miracle he comes good.

When has one of these "buy back" clauses actually resulted in the player being bought back.

If they weren't shit, they wouldn't BR let go in the first place.

Bojan, Caravajal, Italian clubs do a similar thing with the co-ownership agreements

Callejon was another who was bought back from Espanyol for €5 million. That's also cases where players are bought back to be sold. Negredo's buy back clause of €5 million was activated after his spell at Almeria and he was subsequently sold to Sevilla the same season for €15 million.

Has Bojan been taken back by Barca?

I just think its another of these "flavor of the minute" things - you know, like "lets insert a buy back clause" - its up thee with "let's do a part exchange".

It very rarely works out.

Liverpool are ready to sell Jonjo Shelvey to Swansea - if the Welshmen come up with £5million.

The Swans have opened talks with the Reds' boss Brendan Rodgers - who managed the Liberty Stadium side himself until a year ago - about buying the England Under-21 midfielder.

It has been decided Shelvey can go as part of the Anfield giants' summer shake-up, and Swansea see him as a player who can add bite to their slick-passing playing style.

Shelvey’s availability has also alerted other clubs, but League Cup winners Swansea are showing the biggest interest and a compromise could be reached in the next 48 hours.
