Bundesliga doesn't deal with anywhere near the same amount of aerial balls as in the premiership so its hard to make a comparision like that. Plus when i meant powerpuff i didn't mean that he doesn't win the ball, more that the power when he heads it doesn't seem great. Its like sakho and toure, even when they win a header there's no great power behind it.

Is it? He's involved in more aerial duels pr game than the likes of Shawcross, Sakho, Zouma, Mertesacker, and I just randomly picked a good header of the ball from a lower mid table club Craig Dawson and Scott Dann. With a better win percentage than all of them according to Whoscored.

I dont think thats the case with him. Look at some of the goals he scores from set pieces etc.

I think it's a fair question. Being good in the air in the Bundesliga may not translate to being good in the air in the Premier League.

As an example Morientes was good in the air in Spain but he wasn't here. Yes, I get that Spanish football isn't well known for 'get-it-in-the-mixer' type football and the German league is closer to ours.

My point is that blindly using stats like this without thinking about other factors could lead to a bad decision. I mean I wonder what Sahko heading stats were when he played in France. They must have been good for the stats guys to give us the approval to buy him, right?

I was looking up the aerial challenges involved in each league a few weeks ago, and I found this really surprising bit of data (source: whoscored.com):

Across the top 5 leagues in Europe, 15 of the top 16 teams in total aerial challenges per game are in the Bundesliga. Leicester, at no. 13, is the only Premier League club in the top 20 even. 3 French clubs and Atletic Bilbao round up the top 20.

As someone else mentioned, I'm not sure we can take from that that someone that is good there, will necessarily be good here. That's just saying that the ball is in the air more often there right? It's not giving an insight into how easy or tough it is, or anything else.

The air in the Bundesliga is very different from the air in the Premier League

Ah yes, generally warmer so the ball flies further. Very deceiving - if he heads it 20m on average in Germany then it will only be 10m in the PL .. therefore a powerpuff.

Grujic and Matip sounds like a good start (even though I know very little about them. Ha). Nice to have some summer business already out of the way.

Confirmed by the Echo.
Has agreed a pre contract and will move on a free this summer
I like this not because I think he'll be a world beater based upon the little I've seen, but because he has to be better than the shite we've got, and it's a transfer, yay!

First two signings made by Klopp. Grujic 6"3 and Matip 6"4.
We'll hopefully be a totally different teams next season when dealing with set pieces but also the general physical side of the PL.

Kante is the best defensive midfielder in the league and he's titchy

I wonder who will buy him - I can see Chelsea selling Matic to Real/PSG for 40-50 million and signing him for 20 million.
He'd be a great great pick up.

He'd walk into any team in the Premiership on current form.

Admittedly, we've seen these one-season wonders hundreds of times, but from what I've seen, he's excellent.

Ha! Yeah, I know. But they've got two massive no nonsense whoppers in Huth and Morgan though. I was mere thinking of adding height to the team, not every position.
I'd love to sign Kante. He'd be excellent for us.

Why? Real don't seem to like DMs and PSG already have Matuidi, Verrati and Motta.

Motta will be 34 and there has been some issues with Matuidi of late.

I was more thinking of Real blowing that much money on Matic when they could sign Kante instead. I've got no idea if anyone is interested in him or not.
There will obviously be interest in him after the season.

Great signing and possibly our best "free transfer" ever.

Yeah, I never get any love for wanting us to sign Shawcross or anyone similar. He's the type of defender we need. There was often that same vague snobbery about the quality of defenders like Carragher, Terry, Vidic, etc. Unfairly seen as perhaps a touch more agricultural or lacking a lovely, eye catching technique, despite the fact that Terry is a brilliant passer of a football, and Carra was very gifted too, but they both knew that sometimes what you need to do is send the attacker into a low fucking orbit and the ball into the stands.

Aye, I'd have shawcross. He can defend well. Maybe not as fancy as some 'ball playing centre backs', but he does what it says on the tin.
I would happily have Williams from Swansea too. Good CB and can control a defence too.

Best free transfer ever is not exactly an auspicious list. Babbel, Macca.....ermmmm.....Zenden? Litmanen maybe? Maxi?

And then we have Joe Cole, Nunez, Jovanovic, Degen, Pellegrino

If he turns out to be as good as I think he is, considering his young age, he most definitely can be better than all of them for us in the long term.
