That's just weird. No Kuyt, no Maxi, no Jovanovic .... and a player we haven't signed yet (supposedly as a back up to Torres) played out of position as on RW ?
Back to the drawing board.
Actually REMY can play upfront or on the left or right wing 😉

Disagree. Not only is it questionable whether there's now room for Bellamy in the squad, he's no wide player and would soon spit his dummy out if we tried to turn him into one.
He played wide for City last year
I thought he played in the kind of way Henry used to play for the Arse, often pulling out wide to receive the ball but then coming inside and going for goal. He certainly wasn't a winger. If that's what we want, that what we shuld sign IMO. If it isn't, I still don't see a role for Bellers in our squad with Torres there and Jovanovic as back-up striker. At best he'd be Torres' understudy and I can't see him being happy with that.

10? Strange one.
10 is my favorite liverpool number, as it has been worn by my favorite ever liverpool player. barnes.

He's actually perfect for that role IMO: fast, skilful, scores goals (but not enough to justify him being the lone striker), creates space and chances for others, and is defensively disciplined. I know he played as a striker for most of his career, but he's really more of a Robben than a Defoe.

Jovanovic has never played in the PL before. I don't think we should be relying on him as our main back-up striker, especially as he played a more Kuyt-like wide role in the World Cup and will probably be used more on the left than down the middle.

i'd be happy if we bought back bellers as a back up winger/striker option ...
I'd be delighted at the reported 3m.

I think Rafa will try to bring Kuyt to Inter.

Where does it show that they offered: Less, the same, or not 4 years?
We offered him the best contract in terms of length, money and prestige. Spurs have a rigid wage structure and if they break it their players will moan and want new deals, Arsenal MUST have offered him a worse terms for him to move out of London

Use your common sense

Do you really believe they offered him 100k a week gold plated contracts and he turned them down for us?
My spurs mate said at the very start that they'd offered him 80-90k a week - a lot for Spurs. He also said that Cole had intimated that he wanted assurances (of sorts) that he'd be a regular. He's been leaning our way for over two weeks now.

Awful...

Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool's capture of free agent Joe Cole signals the club's Premier League intent this season.

2009/10 proved a disappointing campaign for Rafa Benitez's men with the title challengers finishing seventh in the standings.

The close season has ushered in a new era with Roy Hodgson replacing Benitez while on Monday they signed England ace Cole.
Carragher has played numerous times alongside Cole in an England jersey and he believes the club have landed a 'top international'.

The veteran stopper thinks the club have pulled off a major coup by securing Cole's signature, insisting the new arrival has lifted everyone.

Business

"It's great news and it is a message that Liverpool mean business," he told the club's official website.

"We have signed a top international player who has been really important for Chelsea.
"A lot of clubs wanted to sign him but it is a real coup that he has chosen to come here and you have got to give the manager and the board a pat on the back for convincing him to come here.

"Every supporter that I have spoken to is absolutely delighted and all the players are the same - it's given everyone a boost, just at the right time.

"It has been a long summer and we have been in a transitional period but now the World Cup is out of the way, we can start to look forward again.

"The fact we have got him has given everyone a boost around the city.

"It's good news again and, hopefully, there will be more to come. It's the kind of signing that we needed to make."

One of the issues with Cole playing out wide -apart from the fact that he purports to dislike it - is that he has no pace

Mind you, that's pretty much expected for a wide player at Liverpool in recent years
Really? I've always thought he had decent acceleration. Not Henry acceleration, but when he beats his man he usually leaves them for dead.

Bare in mind that anyone who doesn't possess Henry like pace is 'slow' in Bren land.
Cole *is* slow, regardless of what land you reside in

Unless it's 'Wrongland'
Depending on the definition of slow, obv.
Here's my definition, I hope it helps:

'The opposite of fast'
Ha.
What's 'normal ...', 'reasonably ...', pretty ...', etc?*

*insert quick, fast, speed, etc.

Im sure his pulse is here somewhere.

colemed1.jpg

Cole: Pack it in you naughty doctor.

colemed6.jpg

Doc: Nope Still no sign of a pulse

colemed5.jpg

Doc: Come on Joe stop playing dead

colemed3.jpg

Doc: Roy we have problem Joe aint got a pulse.

colemed7.jpg

Joe: Only joking Doc I'm alive
Doc: Roy he's got a pulse, fuck the other injuries medical passed.

So Joe Cole is 'slow' then. Ok. You may aswell call Steven Gerrard slow then.

What Joe does have is the ability to *actually* beat a man. You dont need to be Usain Bolt if you can run at a man straight on, beat him and go past him. You will always have a couple of yards on him at least.
FWIW I think he has decent pace, as quick as any other wide player at the club (Babel excluded as he is shit and hopefully going). He isnt Giggs (*swoons*) or Kanchelskis or Torres, but he is quick enough to support a counter attack.

Bwendan, the bit where Ryan O'Tomkins nearly always owns you is when he mentions that intelligent movement is more important than pace. And Cole has that. What he doesn't have is an intelligent family.
2 years ago before he had 2 career threatening injuries, he was Chelski player of the season. I hope this is the Joe we get.

Joe Cole all goals/best moments 07/08 season

And O'Tomkins doesn't 'own' anything apart from the world record in 'getting stuff wrong'

All top teams have some pace in midfield and attack, we don't (or didn't) have enough

The more pace they have the more ahead of play they will be when lucas or kuyt lose the ball. It's better if they can fast, but not very fast.

I know this doesn't really matter, but I got told he will be wearing the famous number 7 shirt for liverpool, and as all the photos show hes got number 10 on his training attire. Does anyone know 100% what squad number he has been given?
