Joe Allen, LFC midfielders and midfield combinations and now the Jordan Henderson thread

Unless we plan to only use him in the league and from a starting position, that info is just pointless. He was 17 when he signed for them, so no wonder his starts are limited at the beginning of his career.
He's played more than enough games pr year to be signed.

If the price is right I'd sign him in a heartbeat.

Allen is already a very, very good player, and his potential is enormous.

I'd wager that within two seasons - maybe one - he will be widely acknowledged as one of the best midfielders in the league, and his pricetag will have skyrocketed.

This is exactly the kind of right player-right price-right time sort of deal that Liverpool never make. If it comes off I will be surprised and delighted.

Lucas and Allen with Gerrard ahead of them would be very good indeed.

i;m not saying we should sign him, but its interesting that Britton doesn't get enough love from fans. if he was spanish we would be creaming ourselves. does he make allen look better than he is? I don't know.

Despite costing the highest fee for a 16-year-old at the time (£400,000) and now having passing stats amongst the best in Europe, you would have thought he would have been recogised much earlier at the top level and received international honours at any age group.

Wales should try to steal him, don't you only have to reside in Wales for 5 years to represent the national side? Allen, Britton and Ramsey in the middle would be class.

From a Swansea forum-

Straight from the horses mouth and 2 people close to him, he's not going to liverpool even though Rodgers told Joe he'd take him. There's been no contact and even if there was, he wants to stay. His Mrs is weeks away from giving birth and are settled into their new home together.

He is a massive Utd fan and would only move to Liverpool if it was right for us as a club and him and his long term development with financial gain at the back of his mind.

That is about as final as anything in football. Unless Utd come in with a great offer, he's going nowhere this season.

I remember the last time I read 'the horses mouth' on this site ... I can't remember which poster it was, but it was Scott Dann who had said "he's moving to Liverpool." I'm optimistic the horses mouth track record continues!

No thanks.
He would just end up as cover for Jordan Henderson and the fee is too much to pay for a squad player.

I'd be very pleased with those four assuming we get rid of a few too (Downing, Adam, Cole,etc.). The only one I don't know well is Allen.

Can someone give a detailed profile of him? How does he play? Strengths? Weaknesses?

He had one oh highest pass no's and completion rates in the EPL last season. Think Xavi but from Wales.

Agreed!

That would be a great set-up IMO but I just can't see Allen moving here. I thought he was a manc fan; how much does he want to play for Rodgers?

Does Bascombe have any contacts left at the club ?

After signing Fabio Borini from Roma for £11 million, Rodgers is close to adding Allen for a similar fee and negotiations are continuing with Fulham to secure Clint Dempsey.
Allen is aware of Liverpool’s interest and has asked Swansea not to deny him the opportunity to move to Merseyside.
Although there was an agreement between Liverpool and the Welsh side not to pursue those players who flourished under Rodgers, ultimately it is the player’s decision.
Allen wants Swansea to negotiate a fee with the Merseyside club because he is keen to reunite with Rodgers, who will make him a key component of his Liverpool midfield alongside Steven Gerrard and Lucas.

So it is bullshit when BR said he will not bring in any Swansea players for at least one year? Good relationship with the chairman, blah blah blah

Something is about to happen:

Liverpool have moved closer to signing Swansea City midfielder Joe Allen and are close to agreeing a similar fee to the £11m paid for Fabio Borini, according to The Telegraph.
The diminutive midfielder, 22, was a key part of Brendan Rodgers’ side last season and the Welshman and “is aware of Liverpool’s interest and has asked Swansea not to deny him the opportunity to move to Merseyside”.

Meanwhile, we understand that Newcastle returned to Liverpool with a second offer for Andy Carroll on Monday night, which was again rejected.

id love Allen to come. quality player with loads of potential to get better. the type we should be aiming for. you know he's gonna be a top player in a few years.
