So, what can we expect and what do we want?

Out of old habit I've been reading the Beebs transfer gossip page every day, and it's great to see that even though we have money available we are linked with the same average players as during the summer. All players Roy Hodgson would want to sign. Swedes, Krancjar, Carlton Cole etc etc.

We desperatly need to add some quality, and we all know Roy isn't the man that can deliver that. Hopefully Comolli will be able to find some good signings.

I'd like a winger, a central midfielder and a striker. We desperatly need more options upfront and out wide.

I know most people don't like him, but after reading today that Adebayor will be available for 12 mill £, I'd actually like to sign him. Perfect partner for Torres or as a lone striker. Knows the league and scores goals.

adebayor's a total cunt, but if it gave us half a chance of making the champions' league, and at that price, i suppose we'd have to consider it.

what a fucking hash city have made of their spending so far, though: all as grimly predictable as a greek tragedy, as Jeeves would say. we might be able to nick santa cruz for £3-5m as well. this is going to be a common theme at city over the next couple of seasons, just like it traditionally is at real madrid: throw loads of money at players in the peak of form, with no idea how to use them, then sell at a massive loss a year or 2 later.

I'd have Adebayor in a heart beat, I still think he's the closest thing in the game to another Drogba.

Hell yeah sign Adebayor. He's a cunt but he has resale value, so we can get rid of him fast if he throws a hissy fit.

Problem is, I can't see Shitty selling to us.

Read in a Norwegian newspaper today that City spent 87 mill £ on the players that they now want to sell, and are prepared to take over a 50 % loss. Roque Santa Cruz and Jo can leave for around 4 mill £..

he really is a proper twat, though. i'd take him at that price, but with half an eye on selling him on in 18 months once he inevitably starts acting up.

also, don't forget that the low price would almost certainly be offset to some extent by massive wages.

We definitely need a winger and I'm crossing my fingers we'll go for Arda Turan. Pretty much anyone with pace and skill will do though.

A defensive mid so Poulsen can fuck off. Diarra perhaps?

I'd really like us to sign Lukaku or Andy Carroll but they'll most likely be too expensive so there's little chance of those happening. Maybe Benzema on loan with an option to buy? Adebayor for £12m would be a good piece of business but I doubt they'd sell to us.

Where we most need strengthening however is defense imo. We need at least one centre back and full back. Mertesacker would be my #1 target.

I'm not expecting much to happen in january. All the media briefings seem to be preparing people for little spending.

Booooooo!
Down with all this realism nonsense.

Yeah, I don't expect us to make any big signings.

I do think we'll see a couple in the 5M range, but probably nothing to write home about.

It'd be nice if we were all surprised though.

I think we will sign one or two but more likely to be younger players and probably not big names.

Man City's cast offs will be getting paid a fortune and our owners have already made the point several times about player wages.

I think Man City will have to keep paying part of the salary if they want to offload their 'deadwood' anyway.

I'm quietly confident about this transfer window. Comolli will want to make his mark immediately and I hope the owners back him up if the right players for the right price are found.
I'm hoping for two biggish signings and two relatively cheap/loan signings.

It will depend on the market, as Rafa always used to say. I'm confident there will be money available if the value is there. Trouble is, it's January, so the pickings are usually pretty slim.

We need, in no particular order: a LW, a RW, a striker, a CM/DM, a LB, and a CB. But there's no way we're solving all those problems in one transfer window. If I had to pick one position to strengthen, I'd risk Vlad's wrath and go for a LW. I just don't think we've got ANYONE who can play in that position convincingly.

I would want a LW and a DM before I wanted a striker too. Even though getting a striker is important. A LB and a CB should be on the agenda sooner rather than later as well.

I'd be surprised if we don't sign anyone to be honest. Morale is the lowest it has ever been, the manager is wank, and the club needs a lift...

Although I'd settle for a new manager that is either
a. Young and promising
b. Old with a successful history (not in a bucket league 30 years ago)
c. Someone with a history with the club

I'm not sure media briefings preparing everyone (including selling clubs and greedy agents) about "massive spending" are that useful.

It's maddening that we keep saying the same thing every year.

Anyway, maybe there are options available which would make this possible.

ANy idea how soon Wilson could be a regular?

With a bit of luck, Agger will be fit soon and we'd have Kelly, Wilson, Agger, Carra,Skrtel and Kygiakos as CB's and that's plenty.

We're playing Kelly at RB mainly because JOhnson is crap at the moment, but once he gets his form and fitness back thing could change.

At a pinch, I'd venture maybe we don't need a CB.

LB?

Yes,because KOnchesky is crap.

It's SO fucking mental that we havent had a decent LB since we bombed out Riise, and Agger has deputized there pretty badly.

Kelly could be placed there but both are pretty poor stop gaps.

RW and striker.

This one is interesting.

Kuyt has been decent in a 4-2-3-1 and maybe we'd be OK there for a while.

Perhaps we coul to see if Johnsn gets his form back before we decide this problem permanently.

A fit JOhnson mwould need a solid RW to cover him when he wet forward, which is his only real useful talent.

LW?

Yes.

We've been playing Musical Craps there for far too long and have tried practically anyone there with poor results.

CM?

ANother interesting on.

SOme still place hope on oulsen, and hopefully he does improve.

Odds are he'll remain as useful and as mobile as a tin of lard.

So do we get another DM?

I don't know.
Hodgson's one good signing has been Ming and there might be a way to use Ming as a DM with Gerrard and another in front.

Possibly Lucas though I think he's crap.

I'm just wondering whether there's a way to recall Aquilani and see whether there's a way to make a decent defensive midfielder and a very potent attacking outlet from Ming, Gerrard, Aquilani and perhaps even Pacheco (again depending on how soon he is to the first team)

Not forgetting Shelvery too.

Striker?

Ideally yes, but I think we might be able to use Cole and Jovanovic (with N'gog) in a better fashion than we've done till now.

The trouble isthat most of these playersare average.

But there might be a way to at least build a strong cohesive unit, even if there's little individual talent there.

The thing is, we all hope and want that a new manager will take over sooner rather than later. What kind of system, tactics and players would he want? Comolli will also be very involved in these desicions.

We need a left winger and a striker. Urgently. If M'Vila is available in january, I'd sign him aswell.

Left winger in january? Thats a toughy. We need someone with pace that can make an instant impact. I wouldn't be against signing N'Zogbia actually. Pace, direct, scores goals and creates them. Can play right wing, left wing and even left back and is still only 24 years old. Good value for money, and a good squaddie to have in the future. Presuming someone better is brought in later.

Striker. Hmm. Thats even worse in january. Benzema must surely be open for a loan move or transfer. Llorente will be priced out of the market. Adebayor is an excellent option, but City would rather keep him than selling him to us.

I'd love Cardozo, and there are stories about Benfica being in the shite money wise. Both he, Contreao and Luiz could move on.

Santa Cruz wouldn't be a good signing for any amount of money.

a) he's always injured

b) his best period came when he was at blackburn and had two great crossers of the ball on either side of him.

I don't want us to sign anyone I've ever seen play or even heard of.

That way I can at least have a few days of fantasizing about how amazing they are before I actually see them.

And start wondering if we really gave Babel a long enough run in the team.

Have we been linked with Benzema?
[/quote]

I seriously doubt it. He's young, talented and expensive.

I think we'll see the a replacement for Poulsen come in, and we'll also be keeping an eye on strikers who could be available.

It would be nice to get a LW with pace and an eye for goal, but I reckon that will wait until the summer.

I bet you that it'd be some 28-30 year old fart who plies his trade in the higher echelons of some balkan or Scandinavian league.

And Roy will boast about signing an experienced, international.

Yeah. San Marino international.

I wouldnt give Roy 50p. He signed Poulsen, Cole, Konchesky, Jovanovic, Meireles and Wilson so far. Mostly shit.
