Philips has always been slow and unathletic.
He's not built for modern day top tier football. If it was 1992 he'd be an average/good PL defender.

I've watched a lot of League 2 and national league football lately (yeah shame on me I've been following Wrexham) and honestly he'd fit right in at that level. He'd even be a star imo.

You do love slating the English players! Nat helped Bournemouth get promotion back to the prem. So at minimum he’s good enough for top championship level

Which makes me wonder why they didn't keep him or why no other Championship club enquired about him?

So now you are deciding they didn’t. Celtic offered to cover full wages and offered Nat Champions League football (which he got a bit of). Leeds were supposed to be offering to buy and then backed off to a loan.

I can only speculate, because he left pretty late. Klopp didn't play him in the summer, so I believe we wanted to sell.

Yes he was very much for sale, Leeds were in for about £10m according to the press but then dropped to a loan offer, Middlesbrough offered a loan too but his massive (for his ability) wages were a blocker. When he does finally leaves us, for a fee now or on a free in summer he’ll be taking a pay cut

If we can find a buyer for Nat we get his wages off the books and a modest fee it may give some leeway in bringing in a replacement. The sticking point will be Juergen’s stated desire to extend Joel’s contract post recovery

Everyone forget the Nats that helped us to 3rd in the PL?

As I said, if we are not going to spend on a CB, and with Matip out for the season. Konate made of lettuce, Gomez having to play CB, RB and LB and him having his own injury issues. Quansah, I love the guy but he is growing, why not keep they guy just in case? Unless, Klopp knows that his U21 CBs are better than Nats.

@King Binny , Keep Nats or send him out on loan? If its send him on loan who in the u21 set-up is better than Nats other than Quansah?

Just seeing reports that Man U are interested in Yousef Fofana from Monaco. This really pisses me off, he's only going to cost them 26M apparently, and he is a French international as well. I know people are onto the idea that maybe we don't need one now that Endo has reached a good level, plus we have Bajcetic in the wings. But how reliable can a young DM be compared to a young DM in their early 20's. Also, because Endo is from Asia then like Mo we have to cope every so often when he will be off on these Asian tournaments.

We deffo need a LCB this window. If one is targeted for next summer then hopefully we can bring that move forward.

Think that Fulham guy Robbo2” is the press favourite but 26 so who knows?

I wouldn't worry too much, Man U have a habit of destroying players

Ancelloti commits to Real Madrid until 2026

Real also offer a contract to Mbappe and have given his team until mid January to accept.

If he's not going to get games while out on loan (to help boost his valuation if/when we eventually cash in on him), then wouldn't it be better to just keep him?

Luke Chambers did fairly well and showed maturity while on loan at Kilmarnock.

I thought he was good again in the last game, even though Fulham lost.

My first choice, however, would be Miguel Gutierrez from Girona, if we can get him. Real Madrid apparently have a €8M buy-back clause, but it’s just been reported in Marca that they are fully focused on Alphonso Davis and won’t buy Gutierrez. Absolutely world-class potential; almost like a Spanish version of Trent from the other side in terms of creativity.

[article]Premier League giants are circling Girona for wing-back Miguel Gutierrez.

The left-sided defender moved to Girona only last summer from Real Madrid and has played a key role in their stunning success this season.

Okdiario says Manchester City, Arsenal, although especially Chelsea and Tottenham are all interested in Gutierrez.

Chelsea are particularly keen and are willing to meet his €35m buyout clause to bring him to London next month.

Should Gutierrez accept the move, Real would receive 50 per cent of the fee courtesy of a sell-on clause.[/article]

He’s only ever played LB and (a few games at) LM - so very likely not our LCB target.

I still think Inacio is the most likely target or Hincapie (70m euro clause) at a push.

We need to save the lad from joining the Chelsea shitshow.

By selling the likes of Mount for top dollar.

Don’t they have to keep selling players just to balance the books, let alone sign new ones?

They’re going to run out of decent homegrown players to sell soon and teams will get wise to their “need” to sell and stop overpaying.

Utd are just really shit at transfer negotiations.

I'm still convinced Broehly is aiming to get one big penalty, ride it out and then have a clean slate to start again

Hopefully that penalty stacks on numerous charges and is enough to relegate them.

They'd be proper fucked then.

Real Madrid will make a fresh attempt to sign Paris St-Germain's France striker Kylian Mbappe, 25, and have given him a deadline of mid-January to decide if he wants to join in the summer. (Athletic - subscription)

Real Madrid will offer Mbappe £23m per year and a signing-on bonus of £110m. (Marca - in Spanish)

Liverpool are in the running to sign Mbappe because he has a good relationship with the club and manager Jurgen Klopp. (Talksport)

I can't imagine him accepting a pay cut of that magnitude to go to Madrid.
I honestly think he stays at PSG.

@bluebell - any truth in the reports linking us to going back in for Manu Kone ?
@bluebell - do you think there is more chance we get Nino guy from Brazil or are we going for that Gonzo ? what you think ?

Honestly mate, I have no idea whats true, but I would be surprised about Manu Kone though I wouldn't say no. Connor Gallagher has really impressed me and is available for £40m but I understand he is Spurs bound. City are looking at the South American market, we should be as well, its cheap with real gems to be found, just need a recruitment team that's willing to do it.
