Jan Transfer Window (rumours, wishes, exists and formation change)

Nunez takes no blame for anything in todays game, but getting back to the issue of this midfield - I really don't know. I think we ain't signing any midfielder this January now, he has most of his midfield back now don't he ? - and to be honest the issue we had today was one of absolute no tactcial urgency, and complete fuck up on 2nd balls etc. I don't actually know how you fix this problem, but I think Diaz's absence is being seriously missed - he is our only answer to beating low blocks with his trickery and beating players in around the final third. The way I see it now - even with our fit lot - we have no chance using these tactics, its just silly shit:

1) We actually concede from every chance we give away
2) The problem is we look like being in control - but are always press-break away from being in control, and the opposition scoring.
3) The slow build-up play just fucking does my head in - so this means if we sign a midfielder we need someone who is progressive with the ball all the time while the opposition is racing to get back. This player needs to see the right pass to play as well, so who the fuck do we sign for that now ?

Fabinho - looks like he is getting back to his best.

When Henderson signed the contract extension, there was a couple of articles that insinuated that our committee and board were reluctant to offer him a new contract at the wages he wanted. Klopp had to personally petition for that. Anyways, we seem to have torn up the blueprint which delivered us so much success.

Even the younger talent we focus - Tchouameni, Werner, Havertz, Bellingham, aren't exactly cheap. We seem to be competing for the same players as Chelsea, Madrid without their budget.
It’s madness. Thinking more about it, our buys can be linked to the strategy. Jota, Diaz and Konate. But it’s the sales which blow my mind. How much benefit would we have got from moving on Firmino, ox, Keita, Henderson, origi and even mane at earlier stages?

We seem to be reluctant to sell even Nat Phillips. He would have easily commanded 10 million plus after the excellent second half of the season he had couple of years ago.

Thiago was the most visible milestone in the change of our transfer style... But I actually think our poor use of money as far as how moneyball is meant to be implemented can be traced back to letting Can run out his deal (@Modo is probably still fuming about this). We repeated that mistake with Gini and now probably Firmino, Keita and Ox... refusing to take the offer that came in unless it met our ridiculous valuations. Well... each time we do that we stretch our limited budget even more. Adding in the Salah deal and a few other things shows how wasteful we've become with our limited funds and we have almost a full rebuild on our hands now.
spot on

It was first raised a couple of seasons ago in relation to Milner, but it has become more and more obvious. Klopps loyalty to his established players is his biggest flaw. He hangs on when everybody can see a player has gone into decline.

The weight of expectation placed upon the next midfielder we sign is pretty mad - Jude is either Gerrard 2.0 or it's a full reboot

I have to agree. I think most saw this decline of the midfield in general at the end of last season which beggars the question why the data men didn’t? Maybe they did, were overruled, eventually decided they weren’t were needed and decided to leave.

You talk of us competing for the same players as Chelsea and etc. There’s a yearning for Jude Bellingham among our fanbase but is he worth the fees being quoted? Also, I see Man City has just got an Argentine midfielder for less than £10 million (Alvarez was for about the same) although figures from the Etihad need treating with caution but may be they’re now doing what we used to do quite well.

Also whatever happened to the idea of multiple alternatives, anyway? Recall when we got Mané and then Salah? Those weren’t Klopp’s first choices— Brandt, Draxler and Götze were and yet look at the extraordinary success that we achieved with the form two.

I think we've fcuked top somewhere and pretty badly. It's not just FSG refusing to open their wallet. I've never trusted managers doing the scouting old school-- they generally don't have the time to scout and analyse the available targets nor skills to dig deeper into a player.

If we don't get another MF, is 4-3-3 viable? The MF is crying out for another body and we should switch to 4-4-2. It means we are likely to suffer more injuries to MFs but it would mean its alot stronger.

Funny to say, but arsenal are after Bellingham as well. I've no doubt if they win the league they'll leapfrog us and get him

So we are following the Arse model which made plenty of money got 4th and eventually run out of talent to sell. Now the Arse are following the Man City model and spending and will win the league. Its not rocket science is it?

I think once we ditched their model, they decided to fcuk off.

I don’t understand this “ditched their model” thing - Ward was instrumental in Nunez& Diaz signings and led the delegation to get Salah signed up.

What model is it that has been ditched and how have we signed they didn’t want?

Oh fuck off. I guess Arthur worked out so well, let’s do it all over again!

For me the scary thing is we’re seemingly waking up to this issue— a far cry from the summer. I think Klopp’s only beginning to realise age does matter, at least for what how he wants them to play.

We are not getting him, he is on my list

Borussia Monchengladbach have reportedly placed a club-record €45m (£39m) asking price for 21-year-old star talent Manu Kone, with Liverpool one of the many clubs interested in signing the youngster.
According to Sport Bild via GGFN, the Reds could have to beat a transfer record set by Arsenal to bring Kone to Anfield, with the Gunners paying a reported £35m back in 2016 for Granit Xhaka according to BBC Sport, a deal that remains Gladbach’s highest-ever sale as per Transfermarkt.
A regular for Gladbach and France’s U-21s, Kone is a player who could fetch the Bundesliga side quite the transfer fee in 2023 with the German giants expected to cash in on the midfielder, and according to Sky Sports News, Liverpool are one of the clubs interested in the French talent.

With Newcastle also keen on the midfielder, there is already some strong competition for Kone heading into the January transfer window. Yet for Liverpool, they could consider themselves heavy favourites to land the 21-year-old if they are to push hard enough in the upcoming winter market.
