Not sure why Tielemans hasnt been picked up by anyone yet. His stats are good, he meets the eye test and he was in the top 10 of all players last season in distance covered in total. Might be a attitude issue or something but I think we could do much worse than take a punt on him.
I bet Klopp could turn him into a very good player for us. His quality was very visible when he came on against us.
His work rate has surprised me this season and he seems very switched on.

You all are focusing too much on distance covered, pressing ability, goals, assists, attitude, skill, tactical awareness and not focusing on the main criteria - Is he the "right" midfielder?

Thank you @peekay - that is precisely the right thing, and he is the wrong midfielder, I don't think he is consistent enough, and has that Flabby Melt look about him which I don't like.

Care to tell us about the looks that tickle your bones then?

No Portuguese (language or league experience), sometimes we veer off that model but by in large who we stick to it.
If we do manage to raise £40m how I don't know, then we will probably get some one from Porto or Sporting Lisbon

We can't finish top 4 unless we sign 2 new mids this window. We lose practically every duel in midfield. Elliott and Keita lose the ball, and we concede both times. We're crying out for a Caicedo type, but we won't get it, so might as well accept we're going nowhere.

Shouldn’t have given all the gold to a shitty, greedy, 30-year old cunt and cashed in on him.
And got who? Don't blame Salah for owners who don't want to spend more than £40m per season.
If FSG will not spend then not sure we can continue with 4-3--3 and we might need to resort to 3-5-2 or 4-4-2

Tell you what is depressing is how we do business now, compared to a couple of years back.
Then suddenly we became incapable of managing the squad - re-signing older players to phat contracts, signing duds and the wrong kind of players.
Set us back years this.

How much was the donkey?

We went against our own blueprint going back to Thiago. Buy young and hungry who needed a bit of guidance to become superstars and sell at highest worth. Now look.

I wonder if the recruitment team decamped because it was increasingly being ignored? Likely it will have noted the drop off in output from certain member off the playing squad but likely over-ruled (Klopp spent the best part of the summer reeling off the names we had in midfield) and decided their job was no longer appreciated.

Or those who are in charge of that area have fucked up time and time again and had to leave.

Nah.. not having that. Everyone would have moaned if we sold both Mane and Salah in the same window.

Was selling our 'creative genius' with a bad back the key to revamping our team? Yes.
Could we have done it again with selling an older, in his prime Salah?
I honestly don't know - I don't know if our recruitment staff is as talented as it was back then - or if they are able to spot how poor our midfield has become.
Fuck knows.
I'm just disheartened.
Klopp and Edwards created Frankenstein.
He's dying instead of marching on and on.

Thiago was the most visible milestone in the change of our transfer style... But I actually think our poor use of money as far as how moneyball is meant to be implemented can be traced back to letting Can run out his deal (@Modo is probably still fuming about this). We repeated that mistake with Gini and now probably Firmino, Keita and Ox... refusing to take the offer that came in unless it met our ridiculous valuations. Well... each time we do that we stretch our limited budget even more. Adding in the Salah deal and a few other things shows how wasteful we've become with our limited funds and we have almost a full rebuild on our hands now.

I dont think Thiago was or is the issue. Its that we havent signed another midfielder in about 3-4 years other than him. We havent refreshed. We havent let the older ones leave. We havent moved on the ones that arent working. We have just neglected to focus on it and the tank is now empty.
It needs a complete revamp.

That’s the nub of the matter. We keep renewing contracts without clearly thinking about the future.

Contradicting yourself. You call Nunez a donkey but then say we didn't sign young and hungry players. We came the closest to winning a quad more than any club has been last season. Where we fucked up is not getting a MF or two because the owners are tight cnuts. I give them credit for making us financially attractive but we are still worth 40% less than Man U, but not to loosen the purse strings after the quad attempt and now it seems in Jan is criminal especially as the club made a record £72m profit.
Nunez is going to need time. I said it will take half a season to a season to adjust. When he does start scoring, I'll remind you, you called him a "Donkey".
Our MF is the issue it lacks balance when one of the 3 are out. If the club does not invest then Klopp has to put more bods in MF. You wanna have a go at any one, have one at the owners who want to follow the old Arsenal model of getting in the Top 4.

I also said a bit of guidance. He needs more than that. He’s not technically good, can’t read the offside trap and lacks the mentality to be here.

He scored 30 plus goals last season and didn't register many goals before then. He is a work in progress. Besides, Klopp didn't know Diaz and Jota were going to be long term casualties, and has addressed it by getting another striker. Now is it Nunez's fault we conceded 3 goals?
We know we needed another MF or two and we know FSG will only spend so much per season so why do we let players run down their contracts? Now there's 29 days left to change it and get more players but will they?

Sport is about ability and confidence. You score and put doubt in the opponent’s mind. Miss and you give them the confidence. Just like last season at their place. Had Salah made it 4-1 and they’d never have pulled it back.

When Henderson signed the contract extension, there was a couple of articles that insinuated that our committee and board were reluctant to offer him a new contract at the wages he wanted. Klopp had to personally petition for that. Anyways, we seem to have torn up the blueprint which delivered us so much success.

Even the younger talent we focus - Tchouameni, Werner, Havertz, Bellingham, aren't exactly cheap. We seem to be competing for the same players as Chelsea, Madrid without their budget.

Hendo was smart - he was at the height of his powers then. Shame we went away from the blueprint though. But here we are.
