Does macallister really sign a contract with Brighton when he’s playing well just before a World Cup without something significantly beneficial to him included?

He got a wage hike.

This suggestion about a low release clause sounds fanciful - what would the point be, he could have left on a free at the end of the season and made a packet.

He’ll move on at some point - but I’d be very surprised if it happened this month.

This is actually bad ain't it ? - it really looks like we are not going to sign anyone. Have a feeling we will get no one, and if we are just aiming for Jude in Summer we are still fucked. How many games does Klopp need to see to understand that our midfield cannot play the way he wants ? - I guess he will need to come to a situation when every one of our aging fuckers is on the treatment table and it will maybe hit him that "Oh Shit" - I got no players.

There it is - January 2nd and the world’s coming to an end because we haven’t signed some shite midfielder no-one heard of 6 weeks ago or overpaid an utter fortune for someone out of the absolute desperation of some impatient fans.

Then only verified target we’ve had in the last year that has moved elsewhere is Tchouameni.

We tend to hear about a signing after it’s done, not before.

Tielemans - everyone loves him - the fact that no big club has been linked to him, despite his contract running down, speaks to me like there’s an underlying problem there. There’s something not right there - but who knows, maybe he’s holding out for a free and a big money move (salary wise) in the summer.

Tielemans - I dunno - I don’t see him as a regular and I don’t know how he’d go being in a rotation system - like I said, something doesn’t feel right - but I wouldn’t be unhappy if we signed him - we’d just have to de-register someone or take a massive hit paying them off.

Boehly who is going around bidding for every available player in Europe, has stayed away from submitting a bid for Tielemans. If he is as good as his reputation suggests, it is weird that no decent club has come in for him.

The dreaded right player has started making an appearance in Klopp press conference. I think we are signing no one else.

“I am here seven years and it is every window, pretty much the same – we talk about these things as though money didn’t play a role. It is never like this,” Klopp said.

“We sign an outstanding player like Cody Gakpo and the next player you can read [about]. We cannot play like Monopoly. Of course we cannot just spend and never could.
“It is a big part of my philosophy, working full of faith and trust with the players we have and not constantly telling them we need another player in the position. With Cody the quality he has, the timing and if we wait until the summer he will be more expensive, it makes sense.

“It is clear that you need real quality in all positions and two teams with the same level that you can rotate and that is what we can prepare. Now that people are surprised when we say we cannot start splashing the cash, that should be really clear.

“If there is something we can do and that means right player and financial situation, we will do it.”

Despite his pragmatism on transfers, Klopp conceded that Liverpool may still dip into the market this month – but that will only happen if some of their current crop ask to move on

In the same conference Klopp seems to mention the avoid on the left but not the one in midfield it seems:

Klopp added: "With Cody, it's obvious and not only because we have that void now (on the left wing), the quality he has, the timing is perfect and if we had waited until the summer he would definitely have been even more expensive or somebody else could have signed him. He has a lot of potential so it makes absolute sense.

Not sure if that’s him holding back or feels he has enough in midfield for now.

Klopp doesn't want to undermine the confidence of his current players - fair enough. He even went on to say as much :“It is a big part of my philosophy, working full of faith and trust with the players we have and not constantly telling them we need another player in the position.

We were definitely in for Tchouameni so that's a very expensive player on high wages, so clearly Klopp wanted another midfielder and also it's clear that the funds are there but how much this is linked to Bellingham, or whether that is a separate issue, is yet to be clarified.
I'd guess one lower value midfielder this January (if he can be prised away from his club at a reasonable fee) and Bellingham in the Summer.

I dunno how much Klopp sends messages through press conferences, but I wonder how much this is related to a pursuit of Caicedo and the story that Brighton want 70 mill and all of it up front.

Ah, the dreaded "right player" statement. And a void at left wing is a funny one, considering this ship has no engine room anymore.

Mac Allister signed a new contract a few months ago - I don’t think he’s either available or would cost under £40m.

Amrabat - nope. We’ve been through that - you’re paying for a player that has only impressed in the world cup and been shite up until then.

Tielemans - everyone loves him - the fact that no big club has been linked to him, despite his contract running down, speaks to me like there’s an underlying problem there. There’s something not right there - but who knows, maybe he’s holding out for a free and a big money move (salary wise) in the summer.

The reports on Kone are , Gladbach don’t want to sell unless a monster offer comes in - which means more than £40m.

Azzadine, I have no idea about, but I wouldn’t base anything on how he played at the World Cup - so, no, I don’t think he’s a better option than what we have at the minute.

Id be happy with Mac Allister or Kone - but are they really available at anything approaching a decent price?

The 2 Moroccans are a no.
Appaz Klopp met/spoke to Amrabat prior to the WC, so interest is there (supposedly). Mac Allister has a release clause according to the press of £35m. I like Azzadine, and he is linked with Leeds and Leicester who I guess have been following him for a while. I like that he can play CM/AM and LM.

But we don't have the cash so its all in vain anyway. Our net spend is £30-40m, and we've spent it. Klopp has already said if he wants another player he has to sell. Which non-home grown player can he sell to raise cash that's surplus really? He got rid of most of them between 2 summers. Now of the home grown talent, you're looking at Nat who is available for £10-15m and possibly CJ who no one will buy while he is injured. The pair might get you £30-35m. You then might have to release someone like Adrian to make room too, that's easier said than done.
I know we could get Houssem Aouar, Youri Tielemans, Daichi Kamada and Mahmoud Dahoud, each under the £15m mark in Jan but that's not gonna happen. Just have to hope we are still in the top 4 race in march if not, the fans will asking FSG to fuck off in big numbers.
We just have to hope between Ox, Naby, CJ and Melo we have enough legs in MF despite their records

I always thought of Tielemans as a luxury midfielder who looks good in parts but is actually way too static and limited in his all round play so nobody knows what to do with him (maybe a bit like our old boy Raul Meireles). But then the stat nerds put the numbers on the table and apparently he's one of the best in the league at all those tables for running around so what the fuck do I know

But there has to be a reason nobody seems to bother with him and that he isn't even an automatic starter at Leicester. Weird that he isn't being linked to Italian clubs at all, I guess he'd do well there

Ok - Houssem Aouar, Youri Tielemans, Daichi Kamada and Mahmoud Dahoud - there’s a list of midfielders that no-one seemingly wants to go near - despite being hawked about Europe for ages.

Klopp speaks to everyone - Amrabat has had 6 good games in his career - he’s shit, otherwise at 26 he wouldn’t be be playing for a shite team in Italy.

“Azzadine” (Azzedine) - is interesting Leeds and Leicester - good - why are we worrying about shithiuse journeymen (future or present) they’re trying to sign - Are City, Real, PSG, Bayern interested?- No!! Meh!!! Why do we care.

Mac Allistar has a release clause “according to the press”. Wow!!! Really - it must be true!!!!! Maybe this is the opportunity Klopp spoke about - or, and this is just a guess based on “the press” - it’s utter fucking horseshit.

Stop “concentrating” on who we’re selling - that’s a red herring - cash flow is not our issue and we can afford a £40m player if we want him - but we have to actually want him.

Pep Ljenders seems to have a big say on who we get. So we ain't getting anyone like Tielemans, Houssem Aouar or Daichi Kamada. if we go for someone It will probably somebody from the Portuguese league like Otávio or Manuel Ugarte (who? Your guess is good as mine, is Uraguyan, plays DM and is 21). Those are the profile of players Ljenders goes for

To be fair, it looked like this in August, it stayed like this in August, and we are fucking shite.

Yep, as a squad player (replacement for Keita probably) definitely. But he will want serious dough; wages plus signing on fee. It might also be that he wants his next team to guarantee him a certain importance in the team which we might not be able to provide.

Thing with our requirements in midfield is you just need to be half good but cover loads of ground. Tielemans is exactly this and is available. No brainer for me. Remember when we used to have 25 year old workhorses who covered the most ground in the league? Well there he is.

Is that what we want though?

He’s, at best, another Henderson - more skilful, but less committed.

We want literally anyone in the top 10 industrious midfielders in the league with a better than average injury record, preferably all of them. Except the ones who play for Man U.

We can't have all of them but we can have Tielemans, so we should get him.

I’d be delighted if we signed a Mo Sissoko, just someone who covers ground fantastically well and breaks up opposition play. It’d help the better players out immensely.

Not sure why Tielemans hasnt been picked up by anyone yet. His stats are good, he meets the eye test and he was in the top 10 of all players last season in distance covered in total. Might be a attitude issue or something but I think we could do much worse than take a punt on him.
I bet Klopp could turn him into a very good player for us. His quality was very visible when he came on against us.
His work rate has surprised me this season and he seems very switched on.

He isn't on Pep Ljinders radar. We ain't getting Bellingham either as long as FSG are in charge.

Or he can’t sign for another English club yet. That could be a reason why nobody is taking a look yet.

Will we even sign another player this winter?
I mean, considering our modus operandi, it should already have been done.
