"It's complicated"? -- No it isn't, fuck off Barca - £113 Million bid rejected

It's rather naive to expect that the ongoing transfer saga involving one of your best players, who has made it clear he wishes to join Barcelona, wouldn't be a topic that journalists would be interested in talking about in a press conference.
It's only ongoing because of the constant press speculation here and in Spain fueled no doubt by Barcelona and Coutinhos Agent/Family as Liverpool couldn't have been clearer in their intentions of not selling.
I don't think it's necessarily naive by Klopp not to expect to be asked about it but it must be somewhat infuriating having to repeat himself.

He looks uncomfortable answering questions about Coutinho. That doesn't surprise me.He looks preoccupied and less sure of himself than in other pressers I have seenThat's not surprising either really. This transfer window is not working out very well, is it? Backs can be a problem without any clear evidence as to why.Or, if there is no evidence,it doesn't mean you don't have a bad back-or that you do...

I think we are now in a situation where we will have agreed a fee with Barcelona.

I would imagine agreeing the deal will hinge on signing any number of players in his stead.

If Keita, VVD and say for the sake of Argument Meyer are all signed up and done I think we would let him go and spin it to the fans that he didnt want to play so what could we do.

I would be very surprised if we sold him now without the players coming in.

Either way is a mess. We started this summer thinking we would invest in players and build up our squad, I dont think you can spin it that positively unless we sign Keita, VVD and STILL spend the £100+m that Coutinho will fetch.

Its all a bit horrible.
I suppose we have to wait and see. Doomsday scenario is Philco leaving and no one coming in, but that would surely be the beginning of the end for FSG.

I cant decide if I would rather him stay and sign no one or him leave and sign a few.

Obviously its already a fucking nadir from a few months back when he was a happy part of the squad and we were going to spend a couple of hundred mill competing.

I definitely want coutinho to stay rather than buying anyone. Its too late in the window and we'll get raped on the price. He'll knuckle down by October as he wants to go to the world cup.

But we scored 5 goals in our first two games.
And conceeded 4.
I dont want him to go obviously but if the window closes on Aug 31st and we have kept coutinho and signed no one else we are truly fucked this year. Our squad will be decimated by January.

We KNOW that Matip, Lovren, Henderson, Coutinho, Sturridge, Lallana and Can as a MINIMUM will all have periods of injury. They always do.

The only players from last year I cant remember missing games were Milner, Clyne, Wijnaldum and Firmino.

That will get so much worse with 2 games a week.

Our squad is far far too light.

There's no reason why we can't keep coutinho and buy a CB and a couple of midfielders, he is the ONLY playmaker we have. We've spent fuck all this transfer window and our net spend for the last few years should be really low.

So you also think that he's lying.

Yeah - to say he thinks Coutinho isn't training because of a back injury was enough, but there's a bit later in the interview where he says he can't tell the 100% truth.

And as a self taught professor of body language he's clearly uncomfortable talking about that whereas later he loosens up

I think the problem is as stated, Coutinho staying or going won't really change that much. We score goals and concede goals, we're scoring without Coutinho (though in fairness we also look very flat), but we're still conceding a fuck load, which we'll continue to do regardless of whether he stays or goes.

I'm not even sure signing VVD guarantees much, because he's off the pace in terms of match fitness and has had a bad injury. We're still stuck with the same shite at left back and the same expansive and too easy to expose system.

If we'd have got VVD and Kieta early in the campaign and bedded them in, then we'd have been off on the right foot. As it is, we're playing catch up in the transfer market and our best player is either indisposed or on his way out the door. It's a far cry from what we hoped for in May, I don't know how anyone can be an apologist for these fucking morons at the top.

The part which worries me the most is the central defense. Maybe VVD is the only defender on the planet who is an improvement on Matip and Lovren. But given Matip and Lovren's tendency to get knocks, there is going to be a sizable number of games where Klavan and Gomez start at central defense and even worse - with Moreno as left back.

I can rationalize the strategy of committing a sizable portion of our time and money on getting VVD. But VVD or nothing seems weird.

To be fair , I'd rather they were upfront in their intentions like that then being little gooches and doing it through the players and media etc

What constitutes tapping up, then? If you can talk to the player before agreeing a fee with the selling club, surely that is tapping up.
Talking to the player directly.. I.e. Klopp meeting up with van Dyke to talk about his transfer without being given permission to do so by the club
