Istvan Kozma

I think so once.... im not sure.... many many years ago ... i think he came on as a sub... it used to get a bit mental and it was hard to follow things on the Kop.

Yes. He had some nice touches, but nowhere near enough of them to compensate for the fact that he was utterly unsuited to the pace and toughness of English football. Think Vlad Smicer without 80% of the skill.

Unlike Kvarma, who had a decent first game before settling into his stride as a shite player, I don't think Izzy ever impressed. I can remember a couple of matches when he did little but competently, as JJ says, but that's about it.

I think I remember him taking a free kick. He didn't score.

Ha. Was it Kozma who tried to take the ball off Molby on one occasion? It was that era anyway. The player said 'I take?' and Molby glowered at him and said, 'No. I take!' ;D

I remember watching a piece about him in an old 'LFC Video Magazine' (Anybody else buy that rubbish, or was it just me? 'Here's Phil Babb in slippers everyone'. What the fuck.).

Anyway, some fat fucker Liverpool Fan (think the biggest 'realfan' statto cunt ever) talked us through the engima that was Istvan Kozma.

Apparently, he came off the bench in a League Cup tie against Bristol City (I could be wrong). We'd been 3-1 down to that shower of shit, got a goal back to make it 3-2, and then Souey introduced Istvan. Cue 4-2 down.

His performance was memorable for setting up a goal or something in a disappointing 5-3 defeat, and he was packed off out of the club shortly after.

I hate that I know all that.

Who was it that actually played a good game or two to start his LFC career and even played a VERY strong fist 44 minutes against the scum, only to try a disasterous header back to the keeper, that Andrie Kanchelskis easily latched onto and buried, and that one moment turned him into a blubbering wreck of a player, who never, ever did anything right again?

Kozma's name brought that image into my mind, but I think it might have beem Kavrme.

Anyone?

It was indeed Kvarme, who actually went on to a reasonable career afterwards for PSG and then somewhere in Spain. We were a graveyard for previously decent players in those days.

Yes! That twerp who now does reports for Sky - Rob Palmer - used to host it, didn't he? 'John Scales makes some toast with his soon-to-be-ex-fiance' - that was another feature. And of course, before that, there was Brian Beard on TeamTalk. Thank god for t'internet!

I remember seeing Kozma a few times. I was only about 12 or 13 then and was a bit more positive about our new signings in those days. I didn't quite still have the attitude of 'well, we've signed a player so he must be good' but I hadn't reached the stage of having the attitude I have now of 'new signing? Yeah he'll be shit'

Kozma wasn't an awful player but he was extremely average. He played a few games mainly as substitute. In a couple of them I think he had a few good touches. There was one cup replay against Ipswich where he had a very minor part in one of the goals (this could also be game that macca was referring to when he tried to take the free kick off Jan Molby)

The other game, and the game I think Ryan might be referring to, was a league cup game against Chesterfield, where Kozma might have played reasonably well.

But obviously Ipswich were shit and Chesterfield were shit, which suggests that Kozma (who wasn't even the star player even in those games) wasn't really good enough

That's the one.

Rob 'mates with all the Spice boys me' Palmer. There was an interview with David Thompson, cos he was an 'up n' coming youngster'.

"I sometimes get asked for autographs when I'm walking around in the city".

Jesus Christ.

I remember seeing Kozma play, but he left little impression one way or the other.
I did Wiki him - out of interest.
He played 6 times for us with no goals
He was voted the fourth worst premiership player by The Times in 2007
He was Dunfermline's most expensive ever buy exactly 20 years ago , at £550,000, amazingly , he still is.
He signed for us in 1992 for £300,000

regards

I think that's a bit harsh! I'm not even sure he was our fourth worst player.

And strictly speaking he can only have played about once in the Premiership

At least Ferri could be excused as a 'spy' by Ged's apologists, but did Souey even know Kozma that well? His later decision to buy one of 'George Weah's' mates showed he was alarmingly impetuous.

I think he said something once about signing Kozma because he played well against Rangers once.
He did make some odd signings like that. Lee Jones was another one, signed pretty much on the strength of one goal he scored for Wrexham in a cup game against West Ham, and the fact he was young.

I found that link to 50 worst players. George Weah's mate is number one on the list unsurprisingly

To be fair about Lee Jones, Uncle Roy hyped him up as well, but he certainly failed to ever impress.

I think the list is a little harsh on a number of them Vinnie Jones is in the top ten. I know , I know, but to be honest when he concentrated on the game I didn't think he was such a bad player

regards

I agree about Vinnie Jones. He wasn't an awful player. When he was at Chelsea he was actually alright.

The list is a strange mix of complete no-hopers who played once or twice, big money signings who never lived up to the hype (but obviously can't have been BAD players) and journeymen who weren't very skilful but to be fair never pretended to be.

Jones also didn't threaten to tear off Kenny's ear and spit in the 'whole'. Honestly, these hacks can't even spell. :🙂

Yup, Chesterfield. Cheers Richey.

Kozma played the last time I went to Anfield. It was in the FA Cup in 1992 at home to Ipswich. Cold night, I had a sore back and the game went to extra time. We then went 2-1 behind but came back and won. I remember Kozma taking a cracking free kick which curled round and came back off the bar.

On a similar note, does anyone remember Bernard Diomede's overhead kick that cannoned off the bar?

I think that particular world cup winners anfield career is blocked from my memory, like some post-traumatic event.

'Diomede on the wing, we had dreams and songs to sing!'

Was that the one against Sunderland?

Diomede was a confusing one. He was a decent player but hardly played. Not sure why Houllier ever bought him to be honest
