I reckon if we combined the best players of the ROI and Norn Iron teams we would still have a shit team.
Would have been pretty decent 10-15 years ago. Would have been world class in the 1980s.

Put in Baines, Magic, Sturridge, welbeck in that's a decent quarter final England.
Anyone that actually thinks England could win the World Cup under hodge-podge is beyond deluded
The lack is any depth in England's attack is worrying, beyond Rooney and studge, the rest are poor. Sadly for Lambert, the second half showed his limitations.
I don't remember anyone, anywhere, saying they could. That's just a myth the rest of the World uses to put us down, for getting behind our side. We know where we're at and why there are teams like Brazil, Spain, Italy, Germany, Portugal and a dozen others are ahead of us, I said as much earlier in Oncy's Hodgson thread and raised a few points about what Hodge HAS done and how shite the hierarchy are with their "6 year plan" - quelle surprise no one bothered responding as it didn't go with the standard "England are garbage and Hodgson is a dithering old fool" view.
Anyway as said, there's more than one person to blame why players consistently fail to turn up for England. Especially of the old guard, there only ever seems to be Gerrard who gets anywhere near his club form. And that's been going on for DECADES, not since Hodgson took over.
That moment at the end with Walcott breaking and carrying the ball 50 yards at speed, to then pass it straight to their player with two of our lads in support, pretty much summed up how much he hasn't progressed as a player, and how poor he is (and others are) at International level.
Hodge's aspirations may be shite, he might be a boring defeatist, but at least he's had the balls to drop Ferdinand and not feel he has to play players like Terry, people also fail to mention the fact that we had a fair few injuries too, despite the strength in depth, I'm sure Sturridge and a few others would have given us a different edge and he's taken a fair amount of young players who are coming through and gambled on a few lads most would deem unfashionable, like Jagielka, Lambert, Osman etc. He broke up the continuously poor pairing at the back that's been unjustifiably guaranteed a start for a decade. He's got more from Gerrard and Lampard as a partnership than I remember anyone else doing.
He'll be gone soon enough so it doesn't matter, and then you guys can take the piss out of whoever gets the hotseat next, because they'll be shite too, because we're not good enough, but hey, that's just me, apparently most of us think we'll win something, somewhere.
Indeed he is.
Austria's answer to Gareth Bale.
Left back, midfield, support striker.
He can play anywhere.

Great post mark and totally agree.
It was fucking dire last night but at the end of the day, a point is actually a good result.
Thought Cahill and Jagielka were excellent.

Any talent would do. Lambert, walker, Milner and so on are not good enough. We need some exotic talent!!!
U.S. officially qualified for Brazil with the win last night over Mexico and the other result playing out the way it did in CONCACAF.
That was probably one of the worst Mexico teams in recent history! Bar 10 minutes, the Yanks were all over them (and 2-0 was ... a very kind scoreline)
I wonder if they'll ever do a "Americas" qualification group?
I agree on Mexico, they are woeful at the moment. They were decent to start the match but have no end product even with Chicharito. I have to say though, even though I can't stand El Tri I hope they still qualify for Brazil. It would be strange to have a World Cup without Mexico especially in South America.
You know what they say, people who laugh at others are just distracting people from their own shortcomings.
Its the same old tired boring "you lot think you'll win the world cup? hahahaha" brigade who laugh at England cos their own international team's are actually worse than England.
Now considering how poor we can be what level do the other lot have to sink to, to be worse than us? Its funny cos in 1978, the Scots and their manager were banging on about how they were going to win the world cup and they couldn't even beat fucking Iran!
I've not heard a serious, sane Englishman suggest that England can win the world cup under this regime or this system. The QF's of a major tournament are probably our limit and should be considered a good result. Our glorious media of course will slag us off, build us up before a tournament and then release some bad news story on the eve of the tournament to try and destroy morale and then when we "fail" in their eyes, hunt down the scapegoats. Rinse, repeat cycle every two years.
Interestingly, and I didn't know this before i heard it last night, England have lost one qualifier out of the last 25. Not totally shite then.
John o Shea booked and out of the next game against Germany.
That should make the German's task just that little bit easier

The FIFA rankings are an on-going joke. Surely they could come up with something more representative or realistic.
