Insane tactics

I'm not sure what he's cut out for in all honesty. Got to give him time and all that, though.

He's been giving me the Borini vibe so far. He doesn't seem to be particularly good at anything, but people are still taking about him as if he's amazing.

He looked great against us and in the odd YouTube clip I've seen, but that's a dangerous game.

I don't think he's as bad as Borini, but I am struggling to see what he's good at. He's too easily shrugged off the ball, he's not exceptionally quick, his touch isn't right, I haven't seen him beat a man... it's early days, but the initial signs don't look promising.

Let's hope it's just a case of him settling into a new country, club, culture, and getting used to new teammates and tactics.

Tactically there are probably 2 teams in particular that are doing something truly innovative this season. One is Gasperini's Atalanta: attacking down both flanks with short passing and leaving almost no one in the middle. You could see echos of this in our play with the way Trent and Robbo pass to each other. The other is United – Sheffield United that is. Both teams have designed a way to attack and reliably create chances without relying on vastly superior attacking talent. Atalanta has actually scored the most goals in all Europe last time I checked.

Here's a good explainer on Atalanta, there is a crazy part where Papu Gomez (basically their version of Firmino) explains that he uses the referee as a point of reference to find space.

Would be interesting to see Klopp develop these ideas further. Maybe have Virgil and Matip do the "attacking CB" thing from time to time. Flood the half-spaces even more Atalanta-style and leave the opposition DM with no one to mark.
