It's not uncommon for clubs to buy players at the end of their careers and it's also not unheard of for those buys to be successful. McCallister is an obvious example and another would be Larsson who signed for Barca at the age of 33 and left loved by all.
So what point exactly were you trying to make with the "that's what happens when you buy a player close to the end of his career" comment?
That an ageing player will have hard time coming back from a really bad injury? If so, what exactly is that supposed to tell us apart from the obvious.

He's suggesting that instead of Kyrgiakos we should have found one of a number of younger, more gifted defenders, who would not be discouraged by the fact that we have two young CBs already. Oh, and that we do this without spending any more money, all while using our crystal ball that will help us determine whether they will in the future pick up injuries on international duty.
I think its a capital idea.

Yeah, because title winning managers have never brought in ageing players to plug a gap have they?? (Laurent Blanc for example).
Do you really reckon Fergie would put up with one of his kids at centre back, rather than spending, if he had to?
I know this all suits your pathetic little agenda, the fact we spent a whopping £2m on a guy who's so far done a job in one or two games,, rather than playing an inexperienced kid and getting trounced (which I'm sure you'll have equally found fault with).

I don't understand the big deal about players brought in for free or at a very low fee, it's not as if its a big gamble is it? in life you get what you pay for and only rarely do players exceed the sum of their fee. sami, babbel, macca.
