Hopefully no Sturridge or Henderson either by the time the final cuts are made.
Jules will slaughter me for this (possibly rightly so considering England's record of injuring players during training), but if Sturridge can remain injury free he may have an incredible tournament. We've been playing him sparingly & he's had a long time to seriously build up his strength & fitness for the first time in a few years, & we all know how good he was that season.
If Hodgson plays Rooney further back (or even further back, in the tunnel), & plays to Sturridge strengths, England should do well, there's a fair bit of both strength & pace in that squad.
How many get cut?
I've never heard of Tom Heaton. Think that sums up my interest in the game as a whole!
This Rooney debate (where he plays/ should he play) is going to consume the media. Roy's been pretty unequivocal in his support, but even as Rooney himself cedes to the passage of time and available (superior) competition by moving inexorably backwards into midfield, he might find that area quite congested too.
Plus, when Rooney is "off his game" - and I've made this point before - he is MORE off his game than any other player I've seen. To the point where he's a genuine danger to his own team. That could be utterly ruinous if it happens in midfield.
Gerrard could be almost as bad when he was off his game too, at least around his peak years. He'd run around trying to do everything & replace his quality with quantity, & every other player would indulge him (obviously, as anyone would do when Stevie is on the same pitch as you). He'd push everyone out of position & then fail to do their job, & obviously not be in a position to do his own. By playing him further up the pitch & making him make runs constantly Houllier negated this issue, & it gave the team an advantage in doing so.
Rooney is very similar, in that he'll drop deeper & deeper to try to win the ball, make stupid tackles & generally get in everyone's way whilst not doing his own job, & when playing deep, push up to try similar, which is arguably even worse.

I read this morning that Benteke has a better goals to minutes ratio than Rooney this season. No idea if that's true or not.
Rooney scored 7 league goals this season in 27 matches....
He'll start the first match in France. Guaranteed.
I don't get why West Ham fans are SO outraged about Noble being snubbed. He seems like a good bloke, and he's understandably popular with his own fans, but is he more than just a steady eddie player? He's not going to be courted by Chelski or either of the mancs or Arsenal or us, he's never been that good and he's not going to get better at this stage, and I can't see he'd be more than mediocre at international level. Poor old Hendo gets the abuse for supposedly 'taking' Noble's place, but I'd rather have Hendo than Noble for either team.
I expect Wilshere will also start.
It's arse about tit, really, the whole Rooney thing, and it has been for a while. Picking a captain before you know a) how you want to play and b) which players suit that sort of way of playing means that straight away you're trying to shoehorn someone in regardless.

Wilshere is a great player in a virtual world where no one gets injured. In the real world, he's a player with genuine talent who seems obsessed with holding on to the ball and inviting tackles, which hurt him all too often. He's simply always going to be a gamble. And seeing as Hodge has left his team relatively weak in central defence, risking picking a midfielder who might struggle to play more than a couple of games is uncharacteristically daring.
