Someone will be tackled.

Hard.

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has stated he is keen to snap up Juventus battler Christian Poulsen.

Poulsen, 30, has emerged as the prime target to replace wantaway defensive midfielder Javier Mascherano.

Goal.com UK revealed last month that Hodgson would target Poulsen if Mascherano left the club to join Inter, and a move now looks likely after the new Reds boss confirmed he would be interested in a reunion with the player he managed at F.C Copenhagen a decade ago.

Speaking to Ekstra Bladet, the former Fulham boss insisted he was ready to swoop for the Denmark international.

"If we can sign him from Juventus at a price I consider reasonable, he will be a very good player to bring into our team," Hodgson said.

"Christian is a player I know well, a player whose career I actually kick-started many years ago and I have followed him closely ever since."

*isn't excited.*

He'll punch you straight in the face Doc.

BE EXCITED.

He's hard as nails and has apparantly asked for Skrtels number already.

And his house.

According to Politiken he'll be revealed at the club within a few days if not hours.

Oh boy, a fiery defensive midfielder with the odd discliplinary issue, who can tackle and battle.

What's that you say, he's replacing a younger, more athletic one who is better in every way?

Sounds like a recipe for excitement to me.

He may be hard as nails but doesn't mean he's any good

He's actually not THAT hard mate. He can be stupid on the pitch at times, very stupid, but with age he's become more mellow and loveable. He'll still kick opponents from now to then.

Whenever beeing interviewed he always comes along as someone very calm and collected and he's a good holding midfielder.

Bit surprised by this but then again Roy kickstarted his career and has always rated him.

PS He's from around the same area of Zealand as me so it's like we've signed my freakin' neighbour here. What next, me Mum as tea-lady?

Had a good spell at Sevilla, but looks past his best these days.

Don't know about that.

Untill he got injured at Juve he kept Momo and a few Italians benched. At least in the games I watched from last Season.

Look he is NOT the best midfielder in the world by no means but he's been a pivotal figure in a realy good Sevilla team and has loads of experience and certainly won't be intimidated by the physique of the Prem.

Again, we could do a lot worse.

And I do reckon we'll see another signing IF Masher leaves in that area of the pitch.

Yea, I agree, and I think if that happens you can put to bed the idea that we'll play a 442 under Hodgson regularly.

I think I'll reserve judgment till I see him play. He'll probably win me over if he gives Lampard a good kicking though...

Poulsen sounds suspiciously like a Sam Allerdyce player! Nothing exciting about that. Another honest journeyman?

I hope you're both right about that other signing, but if Lucas stays I can't help wondering. We're going to need the lion's share of the Masher fee for a LB and a back-up for Torres.

Well, he can certainly hold his own and won't be intimitated by the Premiership, and he's good in the air aswell. But it's a mediocre signing, and we can do much much better. 4-5 mill euros and high wages for a player that probably is past his best.

It just leaves you with a bit of a mehhh feeling tbh.

Certainly Roy has already seen enough of him to know that Lucas is NOT a defensive midfielder. Right?

Lucas isn't a midfielder of any type

God, we need money soon, because the likes of Poulsen, Insua, Aurelio and spending absolutely no money is getting me down

Fuck off!

Yes, you don't seem to have your usual cheery happy-go-lucky demeanour about you.

By signing Poulsen we're putting 19million towards another player, assuming Mascher goes for the 25mill rumored in the press so chin up!

Mascher > Poulsen > Lucas
