Me?! With a topless picture of Tom Selleck and a vaguely German sounding username? Camp!? Noooo.
I don't think we have really improved the squad at all and if anything are slightly weaker than last season.
The positive is that we have replaced a lot of decent experienced/older players with decent young players.
The expectation/hope is that most of these young players will go on to emulate the level of the players the replaced.
At the start of the season I expected us to finish in the six to eight position and I still think that is how it will pan out.
Next season though I will be expecting a very decent assault on a champions league spot and there after onward and upwards.
If that doesn't materialize then we will have to start asking questions of the management again.
I know nothing of Coutinho so I can't get even remotely excited about him. I'll judge him after I've seen him play.
Disappointed we didn't get a defensive midfielder.
Sturridge (or any striker) has been LONG overdue.
In all, it's an ok window, with the potential to become good or awful.
So far Rodgers signings have underperformed: Borini (poor), Allen (glimpses of talant but mostly poor, and £15 million spent in an area which was a low priority), Assaidi (cheap gamble, which has so far failed), and Şahin (poor). On the brightside, each has the potential to come good (although I hope Şahin doesn't) so we can't write them off yet but so far Budgie has had more success in the transfer market with one success emerging from his bunch of flops (Ming).
I don't know if you read my reply Mark but that is pretty much what I said.I don't think we're weaker than last season, perhaps for the short term, but the impact of Maxi and Kuyt at the close of their Liverpool careers was minimal, we've added Sturridge, Borini and Coutinho to that (aswell as Assaidi, while promoting Sterling and Suso), in the longterm that has the potential to be much better. Yes, in the here and now you could argue it's much of a muchness, but I think if you look at that attack on paper, if two or three of them hit their potential then we could be set up in that respect for a long time. If's and buts but weaker? I don't think so. We lack experience and we lack a backbone, but that's not something that's occurred over the last year, we've seen a steady decline on that note over the last 4 or 5 years and it's no surprise it's coincided with our own decline.
interesting that just one of that starting line up today was a Rodgers signing.
On a positive side it shows that he won't favour his own signings or feel pressured to play them in order to justify their price tags .
On the negative side it makes you wonder if we've not wasted more money again (allen and borini were 26m worth of signings just sitting on the bench ) and if Rodgers knows what the fuck he's doing in the market .
