Does Sturridge and Coutinho (and maybe Ince and the Aussie kid) represent a good transfer window?
Will it be enough to compete for top 4?
Furthermore how do you feel about Mr Rodgers spending so far?
Borini, Allen, Assaidi and the above.

It is definately encouraging to replace Maxi, Kuyt and Carroll at last if that is what we do. But it doesnt solve our problems in the engine room. We strive to put up a fight in the CM as soon as the match get slightly physical, and none of the midfielders bar gerrard commands the game for us. The current squad will give us some sweet 3 to 4 nil trashings against weak opposition one weak, while they will be outfought and trashed by tougher opposition the next. the ssytem aint working for a 4th spot finish I am afraid. A bit like Modo!

I'm happy with the quality we're buying:
Allen started with a bang, but has struggled. Hopefully he picks up
Borini hasn't had a good run due to that injury, but was showing promise.
Assaidi hasn't been given a chance - I guess will be going to Ajax when we get Erisken and Fischer.
Sturridge has started off brilliantly, and one can only hope he uses up this chance to fulfill his potential.
Coutinho - exciting signing. We won't lose anything if he doesn't hit the heights he's capable of ...

I think where we'll see what Rodgers is about is when he signs players to improve our defense (CB & DM). We need two fantastic players - and that is where a nice chunk of the summer's kitty should go.

I think the most pleasing aspect was getting the Sturridge deal done so early . Ok we all knew we needed a striker for months but normally we'd be going into Jan 31st still depserate to sign one. It was nice to get that sorted before all the frustration built and he's obviously helped the team already .Some credit must be given to the club.
Long term i'm not sure if he has that something special about him like say Fowler , Owen , torres and Suarez have but i reckon he's at least a 15-20 goal per season striker which will be massively beneficial especially if we can keep Suarez . Although i suspect he'll wreck the head at times with poor perfromances.

Coutinho could also prove to be very exiciting but again he had alot to prove and hasn't really shown enough of himself before . A gamble but hopefully a calculated one.

I hope we don't sign ince , not because i have issues re-signing a sold player , i just don't see him adding that much to the team or being more than a squad player so what's the point .

Borini i don't rate at all so far , Assaidi i have no idea why he was signed because he seems and out and out winger when Rodgers doesn't use them , Allen there is hope but even then i wonder what he really adds to the team , yeah yeah he keeps things ticking over and links play .

So anyway that's near 50m rodgers has spent and most of that is on players that everyone believes are for the future and so in a sense are a gamble . That's fine , i'll be happy to come back and heap praise on Rodgers if this works . Right now though how can anyone be really sure which way it's going to go . Just because there is this idea that running a good football club means buying young talent doesn't mean that we've got the right ones or can nuture them correctly . For instance , are they all going to get enough playing time to fully develop like hoped ?
And this is fast becoming Rodger's team with reasonable money being spent , he'll need them to produce soon . Patience won't continue like it is . I mean how brainwashed are we that very little fuss was given to be knocked out of the cup to a wank team ?. That won't last long into next season .

I think Assaidi and Sahin were both good players, they were a gamble that didn't pay off but they clearly both had the talent, just maybe not enough for this league. Sahin looked short of the required tactical know-how to play such a demanding role over here, and Assaidi looked like he had severe stamina issues (there also seems an underlying issue over him settling).

Allen is my biggest disappointment so far, but he's young and needs time. Borini, much the same though I'm please with his intelligence in the final third, he's a striker though and they're measured on goals so he needs to at least start adding some to his game, his tally so far is non-existent. Sturridge I've always liked, don't know enough about Coutinho.

To me Sahin struggled a bit in the physical department as the rest of our midfield do. But when we held on to the ball I think he showed better movement and willingness to support our (often lonely) attacker. He also contributed with som goals, which is very rare from our midfield. Could it be that Hendo and Shelvey showed more energy and willingness to cover miles, which in the end gave Rodgers to many CM to pick from? After all both of them were available for at least loan deals in the summer.

Assaidi and Borini could leave today and we would probably not notice. Allen is slowly turning into a Charlie Adam, great at a small club, unable to deliver at a large one. Sturridge and Coutinho were both known quantities; players with talent unable to convince successive managers to use them regularly and now we have taken (admittedly reasonably priced) gambles on them both launching their careers properly with us.

It doesn't feel like nearly £50m well spent so far because we've almost nothing to show for it.

I don't think much of his summer transfers. Borini is unexciting and has been poor so far, Assaidi was pointless (but cheap), and Allen not really a player we needed to be spending £15m on.

But I really really like Sturridge and Coutinho. Sturridge I've always liked as a player amd felt he just needed the right platform to go on and be a top class striker, and Coutinho IMO is, bar Suarez, the most exciting signing since Torres.

Why do you call him Mr Rodgers as opposed to just Rodgers?

Mr Rodgers neighbourhood.

I'm happy with the age profile of the players we've signed, but I'm really not sure about Borini.

He seems to have all the movement and intelligence of a top striker but is severely lacking the touch and finishing ability.

I'd like to see Borini played up front and not as a wing-forward. Problem is Sturridge is ahead of him.

Touch - yes. Finishing ability - not ready to give up on it based on what I've seen last year with Roma where he was very good.

He'll be a striker who has purple patches for goals.

He gets one - >he gets a few - >they dry up for a bit

It's a good window, considering our current state of affairs. If we were of the same quality as the Uniteds or Citys etc (ie not a midtable team)....it would be disappointing.

Well, I guess the point was to improve the team, not cement its position as a midtable team?

I think we have, Sturridge will improve us anyway. We still having gaping holes we need to fill though and until they are addressed, we'll continue to falter.

It would be a near miracle for any team to sign 5 players and they all turn out as expected. Maybe 1-2 excel, 1-2 are average and the other 1-2 bomb, that's the way it is.

That said I'm relatively happy with what we have bought so far.

Borini was a panic buy IMHO but nevertheless he puts the effort in and could yet be worth what we pai for him ..it's just that I don't see him getting that much pitch time (Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling, Coutinho and Downing - who it seems Rodgers is going to persist with). Pity for him and us that he had a bad injury otherwise we could be that much closer to 4th.
Allen : 90% of posters here wanted him so there shouldn't be too much bitching. He's already shown, both at Swansea and in his first few matches for us, that he can handle this league and playing for LFC. Not sure why he's gone off the boil but I expect him to come back strong.
Assaidi : I was excited about him joining, a young technically skilful player. He seems to lack the confidence to perform or attempt to perform as he did in the NL. He's tries once or twice at the beginning of a match and if the defender sees him off then he cools.
Sturridge : I always liked him at Chelsea and couldn't understand why CFC didn't use him more. Very very pleased we have him here, he will be a star.
Coutinho : Wonderful skills, I really hope that he's not physically or mentally too light-weight for the PL but I'm very very excited to have him here.

So a 7/10 for our transfer dealings under Rodgers so far.

We definately have, it was an answer to the other post. Still those gaping holes is a worry. For some reason people have been screaming and swearing about this and that fullback, or this and that winger for ages while in my opinion it is the CMs, CDs and Strikers winning you titles. If we are to solve our defensive problem we need a better midfielder that can bite some ancles and drive the game forward again. The defence is constantly exposed due to lack of steel in midfield, and we are not defending as a unit at all.

last season we needed a good hard fought result at home against City to reach the League Cup final. We went out there and did the dirty job needed. This year we would have been slaughtered in such a game were we need to leave no casualties behind while fighting out a result. We are extremely fragile defensively, and of course one single midfielder would not solve it alone, but it would be a start.

90% of posters wanted Robbie Keane, too.
