Games NEVER used to get called off for "Safety reasons around the ground".

Just goes to show how far the games changed from its working class background.

Fucking shite.
That's when the Police used to barely give a shit about the fans at grounds, which we should know about surely.

It's hardly a class issue.

I was listening to TalkSport on Wednesday and Durham was on about Arsenal cancelling their game. He was giving it loads about football being a man's game watched by real men. I guess real men are who TalkSport aim to please anyway, within a breath of finishing his bullshit about real men he informed us all that they were having extended weather and travel updates on the station and to take care out on the roads as it's dangerous.

Idiot.
I wonder if he'll base today's show on "Liverpool running scared" or some similar shat ?

According to Talkshite "Torres and Gerrard still not fit enough eh ?" and "If the will was there, it would happen".

More to follow.

Re: I'd be very suprised..

Liverpool FC and the Premier League confirm that Sunday's fixture against Tottenham Hotspur has been postponed.

A club spokesman said: "Although the Anfield pitch is perfectly playable for the game, the problem we face is the icy condition of the approach roads and paths in the immediate vicinity of the stadium.

"The safety of our fans is paramount and an assessment of both the prevailing conditions and the weather forecast for the next 48 hours has been made in arriving at the decision to call off the match. Both local police and the City Council were fully involved in this assessment.

"All existing tickets will remain valid for the re-arranged game. We will also offer refunds and will publish a deadline date for refunds once the re-arranged fixture date is announced, such that we can re-sell any returned seats to other supporters."

Hospitality:

All guests who have purchased hospitality for this fixture are advised to retain their tickets as they will be valid for the new date. We will advise guests of the new date as soon as possible.

The clubs don't want someone slipping on the ground inside the stadium and sticking in a massive compo claim.
Thats what I mean.

No one used to be arsed years ago. You went the match, if you fell over its your own fault. Should still be the same now.

If you fall over, its your own fault, Liverpool arent MAKING you go the game, its your choice to be there.

Re: I'd be very suprised..

20 centimeters of snow and its chaos in UK.
3rd world country is the image you're showing to the rest of the world unfortunately.
"Conditions outside the ground" WTF, Are we talking about Anfield area??
Ridiculous

Re: I'd be very suprised..

And before someone goes, "its their job to make it safe" blah blah blah. Not on the roads and pavements outside the ground its not. Thats council owned property.

You know its icy, etc, if you are worried about falling over, dont go the game.

Point is? Its still not that bad to go calling off games if the pitch is fine.

Im in work (have been all week) and have been out walking every day on my lunch hour. And not fell over once.

Get off your high horse.

Re: I'd be very suprised..

You're right Pete.

There's a diving header by Albert Stubbins in the snow and ice regarded as one of our best goals ever. You'd never get the chance to see that now in case some injurylawyers4u ("they're real lawyers"... That's reassuring) cunt turns up

Re: I'd be very suprised..

There's no reason for countries that don't usually get much snow to have the means to deal with much snow.

That you can't harp on about 'the good old days when no games were called off' if this is the "worst you've seen it".

And trying not slipping over with thousands of people leaving the ground at once.

I wouldn't be on a Horse in these conditions either.

There are other reasons why I won't get to see Albert Stubbins score a diving header.

Flight delayed, let alone airports closed, chaos on the roads.
You dont have trucks putting salt and taking snow out of roads in your country?
Now games called off.
Sorry but thats embarassing.

Countries that regularly get a lot of snow are better prepared for getting a lot of snow.

Ok you're not used to get that much snow but eh you're not a tropical country.
Im sorry if you feel personnaly offended but my rant was more about your public services which honestly are in shambles.
Im not so sure we'd have seen such chaos 30 years ago.

Re: I'd be very suprised..

Rubbish and over cautious. If the ground was right out in the sticks I'd understand it as the council wouldn't be under a huge obligation to clear the surrounding areas, but we're talking about a residential area! The people who live round there are essentially being told they won't get their pavements cleared this weekend!

I know there are health and safety issues that everyone bleats about these days but if the club actually said "look, we want to play this, it will be slippery, you might fall over but the choice is yours. We've warned you" everyone would take their chances
