He isn't my favourite player either, and I've never really liked him. But he played pretty OK last night, in the context of what he is capable of.
The real issue isn't that Joe Allen missed an easy chance. Of course he did. It's more that we didn't have anyone on the pitch who we can rely on to take those sorts of chances. Plus we didn't create many.
Allen is one of those midfielders that requires two other midfielders to play in the same team as him. Like Lucas. They'll never do anything to win a game, or turn a game around when we're not playing well. But look Ok when other, better players are making a difference.
Neat. Tidy. Busy.
That's what our midfield has been reduced to.

i'm sorry but i'm not willing to be fazed by the complexity of the situation. I fucking hate joe allen and it's all his fault. that 'shot' was like a newborn baby slapping a terminator.

Quite. Allen's been probably our most improved player since Christmas. One (admittedly massively frustrating) slip doesn't warrant all this.

I like him. I think he's possibly the most cultured and intelligent CM we have. But he belongs in a 4-3-3 and I don't think that's the way we're going. And I think the reason Klopp's hesitant to offer him a new deal is because Klopp has major concerns about Allen in a midfield 2. And rightly so. Klopp's also mentioned his injury record once or twice. And it is true. Every time he goes on a decent run he breaks down injured.
