How Will People Feel About Winning the Europa League?

Status
Not open for further replies.
Personally i'd rather see us out of Europe altogether and concentrating on the league.

Winning the Europa League would be great, it'd certainly be a great adventure through Europe and the final is in Hamburg which is a great city for a session. AND it would give us the oppurtunity to become the most successful team in UEFA Cup history as it would be our 4th.

But, without CL football it would be very hard to attract top class players to the club.

And it would be harder to attract the right owner. Apparently Abramovich picked buying Chelski over us in 2003 because they finished 4th and we finished 5th.

Also if we were to go all guns blazing in Europe and just hope for the best in the league, we could end up getting nothing. Europa League will be very hard to win this season. And we are in a 4 way fight for 4th and could realistically finish 7th if things continued to go the way they are going.

Fuck it its a chance to make history.

We can become the most succesfull team in the competition by getting our 4th and the First team to win it under its new format!

I'd love to win it.

Vlad, you're making me very bewildered. Can we first clarify one thing: do you think, if he has/had enough money, would Benitez have bought another striker? Is it a question of abilty or inabilty?

I defy anyone here to not be happy if we win the UEFA (bollocks to re-branding) Cup in May.

Would you be happy if we won it and then finished 6th or 7th though?
[/quote]

Yes, I'd dance a jig up and down the high street.

He didn't say that though

I know, but that's the reality. This paperthin squad can not compete on two fronts.

So it's either try and get 4th in the league or try to win in europe and possibly end up with nothing.

I can't believe that anybody thinks that Rafa didn't know we needed another striker. It was just a case of not having enough money imo.

Personally i think that Rafa sold Keane thinking that he'd get that money to reinvest in the summer.

Oh no, is that the reality ?

Oh what to think, what to do !!

Almost as bad as a failed attempt at logic and or truth.

The question posed by the original poster was "how will people feel about winning the Europa League ?"

I replied to THAT question.

You pissed in the pot (again).

I didn't realise we were joint record holders for most UEFA Cups. It would be nice to hold another record.

Have they kept the trophy/vase the same since rebranding it?

There appears to be something on your face there Doc.

I'd take these fuckers off, it might help:

I'm not the one wearing the tinted glasses kid, you are. I realize that this team is shit and that the manager needs to go before he makes things even worse. You on the other hand, seem to think all is wonderful.

It's not a brigade mate. His own perspective is horribly tainted.

Ahhhhh.... Tainted, but not rose-specific. I see.

Is it still an effect?

Yes.

For this purpose either would fill the void.

Oh, and since you seem to inquire as to why, you do have a rose-tinted view on things, and your perspective is tainted.

I hope you enjoyed my stunning logical approcach of reading what i had previously written, it's truly a talent.

He had at least £30m and spent it on a bling right back and crocked cm. He chose to spend the rest of his budget signing up key players to long term contracts, Mascher was not one of them, perhaps under the circumsatnces, ie we had one striker (Torres) , a reasonable striker in the £12-£15m price band might have been an option.
He surely must have known, like the rest of us, we were desparate for some fire power from the moment he off-loaded Robbie Keane last January.
Which brings me back to your question Mr Mc , if I understand you correctly you are asking me if, in my opinion, was he prevented or shackled from buying a striker, or was it his choice not to buy one.
I think, for some perverse reason, and / or a misguided faith in Voronin, N'gog, Babel and Kuyt that he thought we could get by without one.
How very wrong he was.

Just bear in mind with all this, Rafa only signed his contract a few months ago, a contract that , by all accounts, gave him almost carte blanche autonomy over his budget dealings, and ifthat had been compromised he would have been squealing to everyone, or at the very least made it well known what the issues were through other chanels.

I was of the opinion the only reason he got the terms he wanted was if he promised to not go crying to the press at every oppurtunity?

If we'd spent £15m on a back up striker, that would of left us £15m to find a RB and a CM.

The contracts extensions needed to be done, unless of course we want to risk players leaving for next to nothing again.

Thats what i thought.

Going on his past track record in this area i think Rafa would of been a lot more public if this hadn't been the case imo.
