How Will People Feel About Winning the Europa League?

Status

There are problems in just about every part of the club but I'm getting sick to death of some fans not living in the here and now and urging the team on instead of wallowing in their 2005 DVDs and christ knows what else whilst making Anfield sound like Highbury used to sound when no one was in the damned ground. Anyone who even mentions Istanfeckingbul during a season should be shoved down a sewage pipe. Just get on with it!

Winning is always great.
That's not true Macca.

Unless Aquilani has played at least 30 minutes in said 'win', then it's not counted.

Would be better than getting beat in the latter stages of champions league!!
you keep telling yourself that.

goes off to bed wondering if rafa will prioritise the europa cup ahead of the league?
So if you had the choice between the following what would you prefer:

Win Europa Cup or Get beat in champions league semi final?

Finances apart i think its a no brainer, although i cant believe we're talking about the fucking Europa league. Back to thursday night european action and three o'clock sunday kick offs

There's a trophy at stake, so I'll be happy to win it.

It's a little spoilt to say, we're out of the big ones so let's not bother with the tinpots.

Hope it doesn't mean Monday night games on Setanta as a result of playing Thursdays in Europe.

if we win the UEFA Cup is it more or less money than getting knocked out in the next round of the European Cup?

Champions League

UEFA awards €3 million to each team that qualifies for the UEFA Champions League, plus €2.4 million for participating in the Group stage. A Group stage win is worth €600,000 and a draw is worth €300,000.

In addition, UEFA pays each quarter finalist €2.5 million, €3 million for each semi-finalist, €4 million for the runners-up and €7 million for the winners.

Europa League

In short, the Europa League winners will get around £6.5m in prize money and TV cash.
Teams that do not make it past the group phase in the Europa League make an average of £800,000 each prize money, amassed via payments just for being there (£531,000), for each group win (£106,000) and for each draw (£53,000).

Those teams reaching the last 32 get an extra £159,000, the last 16 get £270,000 more again, the last eight £319,000, the last four £558,000, the runners-up £1.77m and the winners £2.65m.

Jesus, half our league games will be on Sunday now won't they?
Thursday nights and sundays at three

And if we do make it to the CL next season, I bet the take-up from season ticket holders to tick the "I'll have all the CL tickets in advance please" box will drop a fair bit.

Don't forget Monday nights.

Guess who now works Thursday nlates? Thought at the time it'd mean I missed less games swapping from a Wed to Thursday. CUNTS!

A trophy is still a trophy.

Besides what better way to get our confidence back than having a successful Europa League campaign ending in a trophy.

An FA Cup trophy would be nice as well.

Any cup win will be welcome.

Also I hope Rafa gives some of our promising youngsters a chance to establish themselves in the squad through the Europa Cup over deadwood like Voronin, Deggen etc.

Listen, as long as we're playing, I want us to win every single game possible.

Therefore, now it's what we're in, I want to win the bloody thing. But, even if we do so, though it will make for a nice ending to a season that, as we speak, has us all bordering on the suicidal, it will not mean our year has been successful, if it's all we win.

Yes, trophies are great to win, but let's remember that this is a trophy contested among Europe's also-rans. Whilst we should go out to win it, our ONLY priority right now should be to ensure a CL place out of this year's final league standing.

Yup, a cup will be nice, be it FA or Europa. 4th place is our ambition this year. That's it, sadly.

I'm sure the financial implications of winning the Europa are nice but the kudos isn't. As a trophy, I would rather win the Carling Cup.

That doesn't include broadcast/gates does it? Isn't that the more significant difference anyway?

I wouldn't, and I'd be very surprised if many other people would prefer to win the Carling Cup to be honest.

Europa surely is the better cup.

Is a fucking disgrace for a club like us playing in the Europa League. I say, let the youngster play in those matches while the 1st 11 concentrate in getting 4th place.

6.5m can't even buy us a Dossena..and that player is doing nothing but collecting wages every week !

If (and it's a big if) we actually win the Europa League I fully expect lots of people to cheer loudest who now call it a 'nothing cup' or whatever. There are lots of decent teams in this competition and to win it wouldn't be a much smaller task than to win the CL actually.

the carling cup is the better cup as competing in it doesn't make you a failure. for a team that has dropped out of the champions league the europa cup is shameful.

i suppose if you're a team that always finishes out of the top 4 like villa or fulham you'd consider the europa cup in higher esteem.
