How fucked is Phil?

I was away for most of the weekend, so only kept up with parts of what was happening but obviously the big one was Phil's injury. Now I know he's getting a scan today, but do we have any preliminary idea of how bad it is? Weeks? Months? Season?

That sucks if true, we have a run of games coming up that we should be able to win without him, but it would be superb to have him back in time for that City game.

Will have a scan today but most reckon he's out for the year.
Klopp said that Phil had less pain in his ankle at half time and after the game. Fingers crossed he'll only miss a couple of games.

Like they said in the studio over here. Alderweireld was down for 8 mins getting treatment on his ankle and carried off, but was actually ready a week after.
Nobody knows until the results of the scan is ready.

Barca will buy him in the summer so we won't see him play for us again.
If he is out of the season than the silver lining to this cunt of a fucking cloud is actually that we stand a better chance of keeping him longer surely?

It's hard to imagine Barca spending big on a player who hasn't played footy in six months.

He'll probably be back for the City game.

When is Lallana back? That should soften the blow of Coutinho's absence a bit.

Sturridge should be back soon also.

He's been training with the fitness coach but not with the first team yet. Think it was reported before the Sunderland game that he could be fit for Bournemouth

Lallana has been just as important as Coutinho this season, maybe even more, so it would be a massive boost if he were back, I wouldn't rush him though. As for Phil, hopefully it's only a few weeks, back for City and we should be ok.

Medial ankle ligaments is a very rare and nasty injury. It's a huge fan on ligaments in the inside of the ankle, and this provides the stability of the whole joint. Depends on the severity of the strain or tear, ankle eversion injuries like this are rarely seen and a bad tear can be 3-6 months.

Lateral ankle ligs (when you invert or 'go over' on it, which is easy to do, we've probably all done it a few times) are much less weight-bearing and are usually 4-12 weeks.
I'm a tad worried.

Yep, I'd argue we miss Lallana more acutely, however we shall see.

Unfortunately, despite all the furore from people who said we're stronger with this forward line that when reliant on a striker it seems (as some of us predicted), that when one player from that forward line is removed the rest suffer which seemingly weakens us just as much as when a striker you rely on is missing.

As I said when having that debate, theoretically it's easier to replace a creative forward than a goalscoring striker, however we don't have those replacements already, so it's still damaging.

Whether Lallana struggles without Coutinho in the side in similar fashion to how the others have in his absence remains to be seen, but I wouldn't be overly surprised, just disappointed.

I think we miss both, but Coutinho is the one capable of moments of match winning quality, certainly more regularly than Lallana anyway. What we do miss when we play both Henderson AND Can, is the ability to drop the shoulder and turn to get us on the break from midfield. We miss Lallana & Coutinho's agility in those sort of situations, otherwise our midfield becomes very flat and predictable. They all have their postiives, but I think with Lallana & Coutinho we have more balance and unpredictability, in a good way.

Fuck me, I'd argue that the guy being linked with Barca is the one who's more important to us.

Lallana has been linked with psg too

Perhaps we can appreciate both are equally important?

One can win us matches through individual brilliance , the other does a lot of ground work so the entire front line can dominate?

We can compare dicks all day long but like you said they both have a role in the team.

Perhaps we could use Wijnaldum in Coutinho's role. It's a familiar position for him actually.

Though I reckon it will be Firmino-Origi-Mane for the immediate future.
