We aren't 'desperate' to get rid of him. We aren't going to throw money we don't have away just to save face.

Yes we are. Yes we will. He'll go out on loan if we can't get a fee.

And there's several obvious precedents with us booting players out post-haste, and losing cash on them: Robbie Keane, Jermaine Pennant, Dossena, Morientes.
Non of those players sold for less than they were worth.
Moot point. We perhaps bought them for more than they were worth, and sold them at a loss.
Oh we definately overpaid for them. I just don't see how that makes any difference. We sold them all for what they were worth. We lost money because they were devalued during their time here. Riera isn't the same. He hasn't got worse as a player. He has improved his standing from being loanee at Manchester City under Stuart pearce to championship winner with Spain.
I'm sure we'll get rid, I just don't think we'll get bent over.
I will be gobsmacked if we get more than 7m for riera, it wont happen. the only way it 'could' have happened is if he made the spain squad and had blinding world cup but he wont make the squad so that's that.
Why are you trying to make it sound like I suggested we'd get 50m for him? I said 7m SEVEN! Which is a totally reasonable fee for a Spanish international playing for a top 4 side in the biggest league in the world who cost 8m last year.
Jesus Christ. It's like a fucking hair spliters club.
Really? I thought he had Silvas place when he was injured? Was that qualifying? Fair enough. I don't think it matters all that much in relation to his fee.

We are obviously in need of another quality striker. Who the fuck that's going to be though i've no idea. It looks like they've got to be cheap, good and be prepared to sit on the bench.

the ideal is A left back and then ONE player who can play the rest.
If we could find that then quality to back up Dirks endeavor on the right would be nice. Then a centre back.
Priority one has to be backup for Torres in some shape or form though.

with the 25m and 15m we'd get in sales (conservative estimate) I imagine one top class player, one good player and a bosman.

How many have Kuyt and Gerrard got?
kuyt - 9 league goals
gerrard - 6 league goals

gerrard's injuries and loss of form have hit us hard.
so if kuyt's got 9 goals then we do, in actual fact, have 2 players on that top scorers list, don't we?

still, not disputing that we need more goalscorers - malouda with 11 stands out as the sort of contribution we could do with from the left, although not sure how often he's played more centrally this season.
Interesting how Dreamy doesn't put Kuyt on there but puts others on it who have 9 league goals...but the point about us needing more people bearing the goalscoring load is valid. I just wish that people wouldn't distort things to make their point more valid.

Torres is at his best when playing up front on his own.
Based on? He's always looked ok alongside Villa, the only thing is Torres needs to lead the line.
That's a bit of a contradiction Fallon, when he plays with Villa he doesn't lead the line!
I meant if we bring in a new striker, but he can play the other role if need be but in our team that wouldn't be the case because of how prolific he is.

do we need a striker this badly?

Liverpool have sounded out Raul's representatives about the Real Madrid captain moving to Anfield in the summer.

Sport says in recent days, Raul has been asked about one final pay-day at Liverpool - and he is now seriously considering the proposal.

Raul is discussing the offer with agent Gines Carvajal, though he knows any move will depend on Real granting him a release from his existing contract.

The Spanish ace, 33, also has multi-million dollar proposals from the Middle East and the USA, but he is keen on the prospect of tasting the Premiership before retirement.

Yeah your right it wouldnt make a difference to his price tag! But Silva played the in the final. Replaced by Santi Cazorla after about an hour if i remember correctly!
I bow to your knowledge mate. Riera must have played qualifying for 2010 or confederations cup or summat then. I'm positive that he was keeping Silva out of the team for a while.
My memory is shit.

Silva and Iniesta were both injured and Riera took the opportunity to slot in on the left. He just missed out a world cup squad place but he did play in some qualifying rounds and i'm nearly 100% positive he played in the confed. cup.

What is Diego Capel at these days? He was highly rated on the left at one stage.

Liverpool in shock link to Colombian striker
30th Mar 2010 - Media Watch

Liverpool have been linked with a shock summer move for Colombian striker Hugo Rodallega.

The Premier League forward has impressed since moving to England in 2009, and now Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is contemplating a move when the transfer window re-opens this summer.

Wigan signed Rodallega from Mexican league side Necaxa, where the forward had an impressive scoring ratio of almost a goal every other game in his two years at the club.

A deadline day switch in January saw Rodallega join Steve Bruce's side for €4.8 million, and he ironically made his debut against the Reds.

An instant hit with the Latics faithful, Rodallega maintained his place in the side despite the exit of Bruce and arrival of Roberto Martinez.

The 24-year-old has impressed so far in the current campaign too, and scored the winner against Liverpool in the Premier League fixture earlier this month.

Anfield boss Benitez has been linked with a host of strikers over the past months, with Kenwyne Jones and Gonzalo Higuain just two players reportedly on the Spaniard's wish list.

Rodallega is aware of the speculation though, moving to distance himself from the rumours of a potential move.

"There are many rumours about several teams but nothing is concrete until the market opens for players in June," said the Colombian international.

"We're talking about a very large, very established top club that is practically historical in England."

Another season like this and he will be not far off the mark!!

He looks quite good for Wigan, but is this the level we are having to pitch our ambitions at

regards

it might be wiser to just sign wigan's south american scouts. they couldn't do any worse than lucas, insua & paletta.
