Just goes to show what a difference a year makes though. Last season Tevez was frozen out, Aguero was running the show along with Silva. This season Silva has had problems, Tevez is back in, Aguero has had injuries and Dzeko has again been used far too fleetingly. But it's still the same squad.
Squad's fall apart within a season though, it happens. Attentions change, team spirit declines and squads fragment accordingly.
Whereas United add RVP and he cements the squad together - Carrick has had a brilliant season, as has Ferdinand, De Gea has another season under his belt and Rooney has dropped deeper and has enjoyed not leading the line but playing his more natural role of being a playmaker of sorts. Neither Nani nor Valencia have pulled up trees, but again United with one addition become the sum of their parts - simple, basic stuff, they lacked firepower and sorted it. While City, in trying to instill some continuity, have gone stale and lack the spark a vital signing might have given them and what may yet "ignite" them again.
Just goes to show, for all our squad sums and working out what we need to complete the ever elusive jigsaw and all that bollocks, there are so many variables in football to consider and sometimes, just buying that catalyst is all that it takes.
